Ever wondered what happens behind the scenes in The Warehouse’s fashion department? We have! So, we caught up with the lovely Tara-Lee Springett, buyer for the fashion label Garage!

Here’s a day in the life of Tara-Lee …
What does a typical day look like for you?
Fashion research – WGSN, fashion blogs etc, work on constructing the range for the next season, looking at sales and how well certain products are doing in each store, putting outfits together for mailers/advertising, fitting garments, colour and fabric approvals and lots of emails!
What inspires you?
- Travel - When I travel to London and LA it is always inspiring to see how the girls on the streets are styling the trends – they tend to be a little more out there with their fashion sense than NZ and these places have really inspired some of looks we have for Garage at The Warehouse this season – especially our ‘Glam Underground’ and ‘Prim and Proper’ trends. I love our lace shorts!
- Street style - I also do love seeing what the girls on our streets are wearing and how they are interpreting the different looks. Girls can take the looks they see in expensive stores overseas and create their own fusion using pieces from The Warehouse’s collections and essentials ranges – we have so many of the key trends that people aren’t used to seeing at The Warehouse.
- Magazines - I have stacks and stacks of them! Fashion and gossip what more could you want?! I find magazines are a great way to see which trends are proving to be the most popular and seeing the high street vs. high end. It’s always interesting to see how celebrities influence fashion – Erin Wasson is my style crush, I love her casual grungy look.
- Fashion blogs - are also a great place to find inspiration on styling and new emerging trends.
What’s the best thing about your job?
The best thing about my job is being able to bring desirable and on trend fashion and essentials at bargain prices. I love seeing girls on the streets wearing my product – it gives me such a buzz.
What keeps you organised?
Outlook calendar is my bible! Keeps me on time for my meetings (most of the time)
Talk us through what’s on your desk at the moment …Magazines, fabric cuttings, colour palettes, mood boards and a whole lot of paper work!
