I had forgotten how fun riding a bike was until I jumped on a plane & moved to Vancouver. Everywhere I went people had these amazing colourful bikes. Beautiful baskets seemed the the norm and it wasn’t a surprise to see people carrying surfboards, groceries and even puppies as they pedalled along effortlessly.
When I arrived back in New Zealand I found I really missed my bicycle and splashed out on an Electra Amsterdam. The perfect about town cycle with 8spd gears, a nice big basket and most importantly a skirt guard.
Luckily for us Auckland City are improving cycle lanes all around the inner city. The paths along Mission Bay are gorgeous for a weekend ride and nice and flat for those who can’t remember the last time they rode. You can hire comfy beach cruiser bikes from Fergs Kayaks.
