Top Ten Ways to Feel Fresh

Nothing beats the sensation of freshness, so we take a look at the top ten ways to hold on to that feeling every day!

1: Get a good night’s sleep
You can buy all the potions and pills in the world to deceive your tired brain, but you need to make sure you look after the basics in order to feel fresh all day, every day. Getting a good sleep ensures that you are firing on all cylinders for the rest of the day. Take a shower before you hit the hay to wash away the stresses of the day and make sure you keep your room fresh with ventilation and clean sheets! Click here for more tips.

2: Soothe yourself into the day
The jarring siren-like tones of your alarm clock or the overly happy morning radio announcers are not the best way to be jolted into the world of the awake. See if your stereo can be programmed to play CDs as an alarm function and wake up to the soothing vocals of kiwi artists such as Bic Runga, Brooke Fraser, Fat Freddys, Trinity Root and Anika Moa’s latest offering, Stolen Hill.

3: Develop a morning exercise routine
Be it yoga, pilates, a walk around the block, a swim at the pools or an early morning gym session – start the day off by getting the blood pumping. It’s really hard to force yourself out of the warm cocoon of your bed on these cold, dark mornings, but the rush of endorphins in your body after the workout will be thanks enough. I’ve got little post-its of yoga moves around my room to ensure I remember – most of the time. If you’re not naturally a morning person then consider a lunchtime stroll or sign up for an evening team sport.

4: Variety is the spice of life
Ever notice how after awhile you can’t smell your favourite perfume or yummy shampoo anymore, but you can still smell everybody else’s? It’s not because the smells have run out – so don’t go overboard trying to compensate – it’s just that you’ve gotten used to it and you’ve become desensitised to the scent. Remember to mix up your yummy smelling moisturisers, shampoos and body washes in the morning to ensure that heavenly scents stay fresh all day long.

5: Wipe your cares away
As the day wears on it’s nice to be able to wipe away the troubles that a modern day nzgirl accrues. A quick dash to the office bathroom for a cleanse, tone and moisturise can leave a telltale wet hairline which isn’t the best look. To counter this, we like the handbag friendly Neutrogena Makeup Remover Towelettes softpacks, or keep some of the Clean and Clear Cleansing Wipes in your desk drawer for a mid-afternoon refresh.

6: Stop looking like you’ve got something to hide!
Minimise heavy makeup and go for a fresh, youthful look. Makeup is not a mask and only the Simpsons look good in yellow. Be proactive in treatment of your skin so you don’t need to cover it up – eat a balanced diet, get active, start a daily cleansing routine, protect it from the sun’s glare, stay hydrated and you’ll notice the difference almost immediately. 7: Chop chop
When someone gives you flowers (hint, hint) you’re always told to snip off the ends of the to keep them fresh. I’m not about to advocate the snipping off of your of your feet to keep you on your toes, more the end of your hair. To keep your hair and overall look fresh, make sure you book into your hairdresser regularly to keep those tresses in tip, top condition. Even better ask for a conditioning treatment, or use one at home to add that extra wow factor. Try SunSilk Silky Straight Straightening Treatment to get shiny gorgeous hair!

8: Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate
Whether it’s a loofah, body brush or exfoliating cleanser, help your skin shine by banishing dead skin cells and making way for the soft ones underneath. Exfoliation helps your skin out by speeding up the process of invigoration and rejuvenation. Before you hop in the shower, try giving your whole body a brush down to get your circulation going and help reduce the chance of cellulite – sweep the brush briskly towards the heart to stimulate and polish the skin.

9: Carefree Barely There
We know you nzgirls love to feel sexy from the inside out via a fantastic collection of lingerie. But make sure what’s underneath it all is fresh as well! Carefree Barely There are not your average chunky liners – they’re thin and as soft as your normal underwear and are designed to sit comfortably to ensure that you stay fresh on those in between days of your period. These liners are worth it to ensure you feel fresh, all day, everyday!

10: Eat a rainbow!
My sister’s gymnastics coach was always harping on about making sure you ate a rainbow of nutritious foods and with good reason. Mix up your five plus a day with the full spectrum of fresh fruit and veges – in the hues of blue/purple, green, white, yellow/orange, and red. Try some blueberries, celery, bananas, pumpkin and tomatoes today. You are what you eat, so it makes sense that if what’s going in is fresh then you’ll be sure to exude a healthy, fresh glow on the outside too!
