Charity of Choice: nzgirl ♥s nzendo

Last year, nzgirl in partnership with Flossie.com ran an extensive search to find our “Preferred Charity” for 2010.  We are now proud to announce that Endometriosis New Zealand is our charity of choice…

As nzgirl editor, I am thrilled to support the work of Deborah Bush and her team at Endometriosis New Zealand in their quest to support those with endometriosis, and create awareness of their organisation and all of the great work they do.

Endometriosis, said end-o-me-tree-o-sis, affects one in ten nzgirls – but this number is thought to be a conservative estimate given how many women go through life undiagnosed and could actually be closer to ONE IN FIVE!

At nzgirl, we’re firm believers that you ‘dont mess with nzgirls’ and you know what, this extends further than cheating ex-boyfriends –  this includes making sure you look after yourself properly as well.

If you’ve ever experienced menstrual bloating, bowel problems or pain to do with your periods then you could be experiencing endometriosis. Painful periods are not normal or just your lot in life, and you need to seek medical help by discussing your symptoms with your GP, or asking for a referral to a gynaecologist specialising in endometriosis.

To show you that endometriosis can affect anyone from your workmates to celebs like supermodel Padma Lakshmi, we’ll also be talking to a range of nzgirls to find out about their experiences with endometriosis and sharing these with you.

March 2010 marks Endometriosis Awareness Month and the launch of The Big Hug campaign in New Zealand. The Big Hug (check out the super cute logo above), is all about celebrating Endomatriosis New Zealand’s 25th birthday, raising awareness, introducing new initiatives, hosting events and lifting the profile of Endometriosis New Zealand.

You’ll be able to get involved in a number of ways, including bidding for items such as a SmartCar, designer clothing and celebrity experiences via auction site sella.co.nz. All proceeds from The Big Hug campaign will go to Endometriosis New Zealand.

We’ll definitely keep you posted!
