So how does one decide between a career as a brainy business woman or a feisty fashionista? There are three golden rules when it comes to discovering your professional destiny. Pay close attention grasshopper, for these steps could change the course of your life forever….
1: Know yourselfSounds simple right? We’re not talking about rounding off your top ten favourite designers in alphabetical order here.
In order to make the right career decisions for you, you need to identify your skills, weaknesses and values. Then you can start thinking about jobs that are suitable for you long term.
2: Research your ideasGet as much information as possible, and don’t make assumptions. If you’re interested in a job because of the salary, make sure you’ve got your facts straight before going any further.
You might find the job of your dreams requires you to have a specific qualification. Ask yourself, is furthering your education is going to serve you better in the long run? If so, start finding out about the study options available to you.
3: Get it startedNow that you know the ins’ and outs’ of the careers you’re interested in, you can start zoning in on the one you want to pursue. If you’re having a hard time deciding, try writing a list of pros and cons. Give yourself time – this process can’t be rushed!
