This product test was very educational for me. I had previously thought that my old top loader didn’t have a fabric conditioner dispenser – I had to go looking for it! Then, when I discovered it, I had to look up on the internet to see how it worked, as it just looks like a solid cup. (For those that also wondered the same thing, the spinning motion on the spin cycle causes something called ’centrifugal force’, which basically means that the liquid spins up, up and away until it reaches the top of the cup, and then gravity pulls it back down into the cylinder where the clothes are).
And THEN, I discovered that underneath the dispenser hangs a filter… *horrified look*… so I cleaned 8 years of slime off that before proceeding…
On my first trial of the Comfort Facbric Conditioner (Sky Blue ‘flavour’), I filled the dispenser with the liquid and set the machine on its merry way. 45 mins later, I stood there in consternation wondering if I could put the clothes in the clothes dryer, given that the conditioner ‘may reduce the flame resistance’ of some materials. You will no doubt be relieved to know that the clothes survived the heat of the dryer without spontaneously combusting…
I have to admit that I didn’t particularly like the smell of the conditioner. It was quite strong. But after a couple of weeks of sitting in the drawer, the smell had faded enough to be more paletable to my (obviously sensitive) nose. The materials also felt a bit softer than usual.
I’m now inspired to get out there and start trying other ‘flavours’ of fabric softener. There seems to be a large range that Comfort has put out – six – I’m sure I’ll find one in there that I like!
Rating: 3/5.
