Just wondering what people wear to work each day? (Mainly those in offices) I’m lacking inspiration at the moment! Also wondering how short is too short in terms of skirts/ dresses – wondering which casual items I can dress up for work.

I’m sure there is a thread on this already, I couldn’t find it though!

I wished I worked in an office!!!

I’d love to do 50s day dresses with heels or high waisted skirts with pussybow blouses and heels.

I really love military blazers buttoned up over dresses, it looks so elegant and pretty. I wear lots of high waisted skirts with shirts, it’s really fun to play around with coloured skirts- they don’t have to be black to be formal! Good quality tights are a must in winter, I think it’s really obvious when they’re cheapies

I don’t know if there’s a set ‘rule’ for hem lengths, usually I wear stockings if it’s above the knee?

Yes 50′s style dresses are a great option for office work.
I think that if you work in a office you should aim for things that are close to knee length. (unless you only work with young, hip trendy people you could go shorter but chances are you will not and those older than you will be more conservative)

I think if you are wearing with tights then length does not matter though I mean tights NOT stockings. Dresses and skirts are always fun for office wear though I really love a statement shirt with plain black trousers.
I used to work in an office though now at home with my son, and when I did I liked to bring some colour into the office and also tried to have interesting footwear :)

I wear… dresses. Lots of dresses. With tights/stockings and either just-below-the-knee boots or with fun ballet flats. I kinda mix up the footwear depending on clients (I wear more fun ones if I’m seeing a kid, more formal if it’s an older person etc). Generally speaking they’re knee-length or a little longer, I have my shoulders covered, and no cleavage… simple, easy, professional, and you don’t have to think too hard about putting an outfit together. :)

(I don’t work in an office, I work in a natural health clinic – we aren’t meant to be too corporate or formal, more semi-formal, but we have a very strict dress-code).

In terms of what to wear to work I’d love to be able to spend more time being creative and coming up with looks but there’s just not enough time in the day.

Before Tee left to the UK we spent a couple hours looking over my wardrobe and she showed me new ways to wear my old clothes… it was amazing! We had a week’s worth of outfits by the time we were finished and took photos of each one. So now when I’m feeling very uninspired I flick through my camera and et voila I’m sorted. Plus I find organizing my outfit the night before also helps.

Would highly recommend doing this with your Mum, Sister, Bestie over a glass of wine one evenly. It will take some of the pressure off mid week when all you can think about is another 1omins of sleep!

A few winter work wear staples… a black pencil skirt, a decent blazer, boots and a decent pair of tights. If you have the basics you can create lots of different outfits just by adding a couple things like shirts, dresses and belts.

Anything you’d wear in the summer with tights and warm cardy :) That’s what I’m going for at the moment because I don’t want to buy new stuff!

Finding a decent pair of boots is prooving to be the hardest at the moment, I sell shoes but get them in from USA where it is summmer so there’s not a lot around and the other’s I’ve looked at have been ugly or silly expensive :(

I think no more than a couple of cm above the knees while standing is ok for most offices, unless it is really formal. Wear thick stockings or tights if you are worried, and try the bend over in front of the mirror technique to see what it looks like at the back :)

Here’s a great site for exactly what you’re looking for – it won’t break the bank either as there’s a special on all the gorgeous Belgian hosiery. This stuff is fun and pretty!

Today I wore black skinny jeans, a loose pale pink singlet over a grey singlet, and a black 3/4 blazer. simple!

My office is quite consertive, but generally now that I have the hang of it I wear black pencil skirt, little blousy tops and cardis or dresses and blazers. I have to make sure I layer heaps, it gets so so cold!!

I love 50s style dresses, and I think they always look great and cheer people up.

I’m a big girl, and I love dresses, but I find a lot of them out there for people like me are quite low cut and not right. Cleavage is not a good look!

As I’m on a budget I have to repeat my clothes a lot, and wear clothes I’ve had for a long time so I rely on basic colours and classic shapes that all can be worn together,. I have a lot of jewellry which makes it look different, flashes it up a bit.

I reckon if you look really groomed (which is not always the case for me!) anything can look good.

Amanda; on the cleavage note: I’ve been wearing vintage full petticoats under dresses recently (with a camisole style top and ending where normal petticoats do). That way a little bit of lace hides all that BOOB. Also normal singlets/lacy tops underneath :) or a silk scarf.
