#FLOSSIEFRIDAY: 5 Runway Makeup Trends You Actually Could Wear

This ethereal look showcases glowing skin and lush lips. Jason Wu‘s lead makeup artist, Yadim’s flawless look is as striking on the runway, as it is easy to wear for any occasion, day or night. Start with a dewy, fresh skin using strobe cream or creme highlighter. Add a subtle nude-peach to the eyelids, and shape the brows. In Yadim style, start with a base of concealer across the whole lip, then apply different tones of ultra matte lipsticks on the upper and lower lips – using and orange-based red, or orange, on the upper, and a blue-based red on the lower lip. This causes both colours to quietly clash and POP in their unique way.

This refined look is an effortless way to make a huge impact when you walk in a room. It’s one of a couple from Alice + Olivia‘s New York Fashion Week Fall 2017 show, created by lead makeup artist Erin Parsons. It’s elegant, nostalgic and classic, and draws inspiration from the designer’s own inspiration for the collection, Salman Rushdie’s ninth novel, The Enchantress of Florence. It features a beautiful, shimmering golden eye shadow on the eye lid, paired with bold brows, and rich burgundy on the lips.

How it looked in the campaign

nzgirl-makeup-madonna-1980sIf you’re feeling total #girlboss, this daring look deserves a night out (or a morning after). Dig deep into your ’80s self (and if you not an ’80s kid, just think Madonna circa 1984 or thereabouts) and layer up the eye pencil on the lower, inner lid, with some blended across the upper lid. Sweep a light layer of matte peach or nude eye shadow on the lids. Then add mascara in chunky, bold sweeps, up, down, across and every which way so it looks a little bit teen-let-loose. Next either leave the lips neutral with a dash of gloss. Or add colour by pressing in neutral warm pink into your lips, add gloss and you’re good to go. It’s definitely a look that demands swagger.

How it looked on the runway

This look showcased at the Alexis Mabille autumn 2017 ready-to-wear runway show was created by lead makeup artist Lloyd Simmonds. It’s as bold as it is subtle starting on a base of neutral, fresh skin with striking brows framing the face. Take your brows a shade darker than your normal colour for a dramatic and exciting effect. Use gold pigment to create a winged eyeliner effect and pat it on with your finger or a fine brush, using an eye gel if you have it.
