Enter the bizarre yet strangely beautiful world of ‘Enchanted Afterlife’, Lauren Baker’s skull art, where animal and human skulls are lavishly adorned and dramatically embellished.
Emerging British talent Lauren has hit the art scene running, after starting her art career just one year ago she is reinventing the ancient arts of mosaic and gilding. George Michael’s latest music video ‘White Light’ with Kate Moss has featured Lauren’s skull art and Joe Corre, owner of Agent Provocateur, owns a skull.
The creations include ethically sourced deer skulls that are gilded in gold leaf and embellished with beads and mosaics; and dramatic human cast skulls, brightly embellished, and inspired by the Mexican Day of the Dead.
I met Lauren just before attending her exhibition at London Design festival in September and fell in love with the beautiful decadence of her art.
Lauren says: “Each skull has a different energy and personality and I name them accordingly. My aim is to give each deer an enchanted afterlife, restoring the skulls into something beautiful and treasured”.
In the artistic world of taxidermy, modern mosaics, and controversial British art – Lauren Baker is definitely one to watch.
