It threw me too initially, when I heard of this “spinach smoothie” idea. But then I watched as the gorgeous Pam Marker, Good Health magazine’s deputy ed (and good friend) bounced her way through our busy day in Sydney and I said to myself, this has to be tried.
I’m only on day two – so quite the evangelist about it all – and I’m sure the true test will come when I attempt to make this down at the beach over the long weekend much to family ridicule – but so far, I’m loving the extra burst of virtuousness (oh and vitamins) that comes with such a cleansing way to start the day.
Try it, dare you!

You’ll need:
- 1 x banana
- 1/2 a pear
- A few dollops of natural yoghurt
- A few handfuls of baby spinach (whatever you’re comfortable with really)
- A blender/whizz stick/etc

Step one: Chop up the banana and pear, add the yoghurt then whizzzzzzz together to form a smooth consistent paste.

Step two: Add baby spinach leaves to the mix, I have been trying to get a couplpe of healthy handfuls in there. It seems a bit weird to put them in there at first, but watch as your blender or whizz stick makes light work of them!

Step three: Check the consistency is what you’d like it to be – and either add water or milk to get it where you want it. Pour into a glass and… enjoy! It’s like a green banana smoothie more than anything else.
