A little Birdy told me….
‘Birdy’ aka Jasmine van den Bogaerde rose to fame at the age of twelve by winning the UK talent contest Open Mic UK.
Her songs have been featured on Grey’s Anatomy, The Vampire Diaries and this year her song ‘Just a game’ was featured on The Hunger Games soundtrack.
She has collaborated with Mumford and Sons and their original composition ‘Learn me right’ was the official song for Pixar’s movie
Brave.
At only sixteen she has over 86 million views on youtube and her album is #1 in three countries.
Her self-titled debut album ‘Birdy’ covers songs by the National, Phoenix, Bon Iver, Fleet Foxes and the XX.
She obviously has great taste as she also covers New Zealand’s own; The Naked And Famous..
“It’s just an introduction to my style, as concentrating on covers
gives me time to finish my GCSEs.
Although it’s nice to have one of my own songs, ‘Without A Word’, on
there too.”- Birdy
Her choice of songs and enchanting voice are a perfect combination for a great album.
Here is her take on Phoenix’s single 1901:
