It’s such an elegant look and with the 50’s look in full revival, now’s the perfect time to master your eyeliner.
The first things you need to know about winged eyeliner is that unfortunately not everyone can wear it. If the crease of your eyelid (the contour line in the eye socket) falls lower than your lashline then flicks are not for you. If the crease of your eyelid stops higher than the lashline, then you, my friend, can master winged eyeliner.
How
- Start by lining the upper lashline as normal, making the outer corner thicker and tapering off the inner corner to a point. You’ll want to go slightly thicker than you normally would.
- Then, with your eyes open, extend a line from the edge of your lower lashline in the direction of the edge of your eyebrow. The length of this line will determine the intensity of the flick.
- Connect the flick with the top of your eyeliner to create a triangle.
- Fill in the gap and smooth out any edges.
tip: I like to fill in the top waterline as well (the ridge just under the lashes)
Products
Liquid Liner
This look is traditionally created using liquid liner for a jet black ultra precise line. You need a steady hand for liquid liner and it does take a bit of practice but it has the best staying power.
Gel/Creme Liner
Gels and cremes provide a more fool proof option. The thicker texture makes them easier to work with, you don’t risk them bleeding out and you can still get a very precise line. They have pretty great staying power and you can line your waterline with these too. Use a thin eyeliner brush or an angled brush.
Other products
Don’t use a pencil as it will inevitably end up transferring or smudging which is not what we want here. The same goes for powder eyeshadow, which just doesn’t have the staying power you need for this look.
Pair it with
This look is great paired with lots of mascara, groomed brows, glowing cheeks and a bright glossy lip. Once you’ve perfected the eyeliner, it’s a super quick and easy look that requires no on going maintenance throughout the day.
Let me know how you guys go! Good Luck!
