Hot Five: 27 April 2012

This week’s Hot Five has been compiled by the nzgirl team. We’ve come up with the five things we couldn’t live without this week!

Read on to discover a to-die-for dress, a succulent & tender dinner idea plus we have your new favourite mix tape!

LUSTING FOR_ moochi dusk dress.

Usually I’m not a green person, who am I kidding, usually I’m not a colour person but the emerald ‘dusk dress’ from moochi needs to get in my wardrobe. Immediately. Last week was Wellington Fashion Week and NZ designer brand moochi celebrated by launching a mini capsule-like collection for winter 2012. With exclusive numbers and styles the entire collection is going to be well coveted when released to stores nationwide on Friday May 11. And as for this dress? Well as it was the top seller during an exclusive two day sneak peak sale at their Wellington store we better get in quick – just remember I’ve already called dibs!

LISTENING ON REPEAT_Lady Got Soul

Who doesn’t love a good mix tape? Especially when it features some of our favourite soul sisters like Florence & the Machine, Lana Del Ray, Amy Winehouse, Alicia Keys, Gin, Aretha Franklin and Adele. Lady got Soul arrived in the office last week and we’ve had it on repeat ever since. It’s actually the first CD we’ve had in for a while where the entire nzgirl team imported it to their iPod. That’s saying something right? Lady got Soul is a collection of 20 anthems that are classic or future classic tracks. To put it simply, these ladies got soul! It could just be a perfect Mother’s Day gift? Find it at The Warehouse, JB Hi-Fi and Marbecks.

LOVING_The Body Shop Hand Cleanse Gel.

After listening to an interview with Dr. Germ on the radio this week, it’s safe to say I became a little paranoid. Conveniently, I had a bottle of The Body Shop’s new antibacterial Hand Cleanse Gel sitting on my desk… which I lathered on straight away. I don’t know about you but the sterile smell of other hand sanitizers is a bit of a put off, so the sharp (natural) citrus scent of this on-the-go number  is a welcomed change! Available for $8.50 from The Body Shop in four luscious fragrances including Pink Grapefruit (I have this one), Mango, Satsuma and Strawberry it’s definitely worth a try, or at the very least a sniff!

DEVOURING_Silver Fern Farms

Looking for a way to spice up your Sunday Roast this winter?  I’m a sucker for a lamb roast, so was a little unsure if the Silver Fern Farms’ new Venison Roast would stack up, but I was seriously impressed. The Venison Roast is lean (97% fat free), boneless, full of flavour and is the fastest roast around!  All you need to do is season it with salt and pepper and a little oil, sear all sides of the roast in a hot pan, then pop it in the oven for around 25 mins.  Done!  The meat is super tender and juicy, and goes down a treat with a rich red wine sauce and potato gratin.  My traditional lamb roast has now got some competition. Pick up your Venison Roast from supermarkets nationwide for RRP $15.95, and while you’re there, grab yourself a pack of succulent Silver Fern Farms’ Lamb Medallions too!  You’ll thank me for it! Katie xx

LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEXT_ Swish Me

This week the first ever New Zealand Swish Me event was held. What’s Swish Me you ask? It’s the art of swapping clothing and accessories with fellow swishers. How it works? Join the Swish Me community for free here, register your interest in attending an event then clear out your wardrobe for clothes, shoes and accessories you no longer want – no tatty tees allowed! Every item you bring, earns you a token to purchase someone else’s pre-loved item. Fashion blogger Dani from Danijustis.com was there and snagged a couple of bargains including a little pair of blue + white striped flats. Dani says it was strange to see some of her items get picked up, though the joy on the faces of the girls made it easier to let them go! What a fun, cheap and cheerful way to spruce up your wardrobe!
