Hot Five: 2 September 2011

This week’s Hot Five is a NZ Fashion Week special with some of my favourite things from the week that you can share too.

LISTENING ON REPEAT_ Kimbra

Amazing local singer Kimbra is performing at Kathryn Wilson’s NZFW show tonight, which is open to the public so you can go along too.  Kimbra is such a fantastic talent and her brilliant new album Vows has just been released in New Zealand this week, I’ve had a listen already and it’s great.  I can’t wait to see her perform live at the show tonight as well as checking out Kathryn Wilson’s hot new collection.  Kathryn Wilson’s NZFW show is on at 9pm tonight at Shed 12, Rhubarb Lane, 90 Wellesley St in Central Auckland.  Entry is free, but limited to the first 3000 people so arrive early, See you there!

DEVOURING_ Fudge from Little and Friday

We have been spoiled with yummy treats this week at NZFW, from the tasty tiny hamburgers at Stolen Girlfriend’s Club to the delightful macarons from J’aime les macarons available at the cafe.  But for me the absolute standout treat was the divine fudge from Little and Friday at Lonely Hearts on Wednesday.  It was so mouthwateringly good and perfectly timed for the 4pm show when we were all in need of a sugar hit.  Little and Friday have a lovely little shop in Takapuna on Auckland’s North Shore and have just opened one in Newmarket too.  I will definitely be paying them a visit to get some more of that delicious fudge and sample their other fabulous treats.

LOVING_ Nails by Verdo Nails and Magic Tan

The lovely ladies from Verdo Nails and Magic Tan have combined forces to keep the NZFW fashionistas nails in tip top shape and painted the latest colours from Orly this week, which has been fantastic.  They have set up a nail bar offering a range of nail services from just $10 and will still be offering their services on the Fashion Weekend open to the public, so you can get your nails done in the latest colours too.  Brights and darks have been really popular this week, with the most popular colour of the week amusingly titled ‘Naughty’.  If you can’t get to Fashion Weekend you can still make your nails fashion week pretty with Orly nail polish, which is available throughout NZ and priced from $19.90.

WEARING_ Ruby’s Capsule Collection

Ruby’s wonderful NZFW show on Wednesday was a definite highlight in what has been an outstanding week of local fashion.  The awesome Ruby girls have also produced a seriously cute limited edition capsule range of just 9 looks inspired by their show this week.  It’s only just been released and is in really limited numbers, so you will have to be quick to get a piece, but it’s just beautiful and so worth it.  They are also running a competition where every purchase from the capsule collection goes in the draw to win 1 of 4 amazing prize packs valued at over $1300!  Ruby have 6 pretty stores now in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington and Dunedin.

AMAZED BY_ Phoenix Cosmetics Makeup Show

On over Fashion Weekend at 3pm on Saturday afternoon, the Phoenix Cosmetics makeup show is a fabulous highlight on the Fashion Weekend calendar, with the Phoenix ‘pink ladies’ makeup team creating the most spectacular makeup looks on a range of local models and celebrities.  The looks last year were totally amazing and I’ve been told they have an even bigger, better show planned for this year which sounds exciting.  Fashion Weekend tickets are available from iTicket for $20 and that will get you into the Phoenix Cosmetics Makeup show as well.  If you can’t get to Fashion Weekend, you can buy Phoenix Cosmetics online here.
