The theme for World Blood Donor Day this year is ‘Every Blood Donor is a HERO’ because saving someone’s life is definitely heroic. While giving blood may seem like a small thing to lots of us, it can mean the world to the people receiving blood.
The NZ Blood Service is constantly searching for new donors. They need to collect 3,000 donations nationally each week to meet medical demands, and must work continuously to renew the donor database at a rate of more than 17,000 people per year. If you’ve never donated before, it’s super easy to start – the NZ Blood Service website has loads of information to help you out if you’re unsure about it all.
