Our favourite: Girlie Gadgets, Computer Mice

MICE – total gadget territory! Mice are one of those gadgets that we use EVERYDAY (in a computer based role) but often just settle for the stock-standard one out of the box without realizing the implications on our hands/arms  (whenever I get a massage, and they work on my lower arms, particularly my right one it’s SO SORE) and interior choices (ie glass desks).

So this week on Breakfast, I wanted to look at what else was out there and expand your horizon on one of your most-used tech-cessories…

Check out the below options for the not so humble mouse…

1: Logitech Performance Mouse with Darkfield

What is it: Designed to fit your hand in a natural/ergonomic position, has four thumb buttons that you can customize, hyper fast scrolling – and the best bits are below.

Why is it so good: Works on a glass surface like my desk (so many standard mice can’t handle the transparency levels, but this mouse comes with not one but two lasers), you only need one USB receiver to power a variety of Logitech appliances on your computer  (so you don’t use up all your USB ports if you’ve got a wireless mouse and keyboard etc) and you can use it while it’s charging (rather than having to dock it and wait for it to charge like many others).

RRP: $169.90, but often on special for a bit less.
Stockists: Noel Leeming, Bond and Bond, Dick Smith Electronics etc

2: Smartfish Ergomotion Mouse

What is it: A wireless mouse with a pivot base that allows the mouse to move with your natural hand and wrist positions, adapting to your unique movements while you work.  So when you click, it leans forward.

Why is it so good: Unlike other “ergonomic” mice that are designed to work with your hand’s natural contours but still keep it locked in the same position – this one moves with your hand! No sore, stiff hands. The movements are subtle, but enough so that you definitely notice at the end of the day that you haven’t held your hand rigidly in one place.

RRP: $US49.95 (approx $ NZ67.00)
Stockists: Smartfish Technologies

3: Swiftpoint Mouse
What is it: A tiny mouse invented by a kiwi company that lets you grip it like a pen, fits on the ‘dash’ of your laptop so you don’t have to lug a heavy mouse around or use the trackpad. Great for commuters or students. Magnetically docks onto the USB port to charge.

Why is it so good: It’s the brainchild of kiwis, it’s so tiny (stands out as being so small compared to the others), tests have shown it to be 30-40% more efficient than an in-built touch pad on your laptop and it has an amazing battery charge power (15 seconds = 1 hour).

RRP: $125. 95
Stockists: Future Mouse

4: Wacom Bamboo Fun Pad

What is it: Bamboo Fun plugs in to give you the option to use both the Multi-Touch pad (like an enlarged version of your laptop trackpad) with the comfort and precision of Wacom’s renowned ergonomically-designed pen. Imagine the touchpad is the screen of your computer.

Why is it so good: The touchpad is a much bigger area than a laptop’s traditional touch pad (and with touchpads all the rage thanks to iPads etc) while the pen is great for detail, ie drawing, editing photos, handwriting – it’s great for online scrapbooking, designers etc

RRP: Small $199.95 and large $369.95
