I LOVE getting my nails done (it’s my little way of pampering myself every now and then) but I HATE when they have chipped within 24 hours! So, when I heard about a product about a year ago that goes on like a polish, but sets like a gel, my interest was pricked!
Enter SHELLAC by CND (you can also get Gel Colour by OPI in most salons too) – the long-lasting nail polish that aren’t falsies! Seriously, this product changed my life!

What I really think it is:
Pretty much what it claims to do actually (I know, shocking right?). It’s applied to the nail like a normal polish, but each coat is ‘set’ with a UV light to harden it up. The longest my Shellac has lasted is just over two weeks on my fingers, but on my toes, I have gone almost a month!! (I guess my toe nails grow slower….. tmi? sorry!)
It really doesn’t chip! (except that time that I decided to attack my nail with a vegetable peeler… not intentionally of course!). Although I do find that the darker colours last longer than the lighter colours… or maybe the lighter colours just show up small cracks and chips more….
My two favourite colours that I alternate between at the moment are Asphalt, a deep grey, and Romantique a soft, baby pink. (With a bit of Tutti Fruiti thrown in for colour) I can NEVER choose when I head to salon, in fact, I often get my partner to help me pick which colour to go with by playing “pick the odd or even number”, sad but true!

The down side:
My only little issue with Shellac is that is can make your nails slightly weaker when you take it off (oh, and make sure you get the nail salon to remove it for you, normal nail polish won’t work – normally it costs around $10 to get it removed)
There are about a ba-zillion colours to choose from now between CND Shellac and OPI Gel Colour, the only problem is picking a colour that you can match with ALL your outfits for two weeks!
