WIN Hot Five: 21 May 2010

COUNTING DOWN UNTIL_The Hand-Me Down Market
nzgirlHQ shares an office with a rather stylish lady by the name of Kate – we’re constantly finding out where her latest outfit is from, and sometimes we even share the info you with guys, as we did here for this cute striped top. So when Kate announced that she and her girlfriends were going to be holding a vintage clothing sale, aptly dubbed ‘The Hand-Me Down Market’, we were all over it and we thought you might want to know about it too. It’s on tomorrow (Saturday 22 May) 9am-1pm at 16 Islington Street in Herne Bay with prices starting from $5 for a selection of designer and vintage clothing, shoes, jewels, beauty products and more. The purpose of the sale; "come buy our treasures so we can make room in our wardrobes for more". Love it.

GOT THE LOVE FOR_Florence and the Machine’s New Zealand Tour  <WIN>
As I’m writing this, I’m also furiously trying to get the TicketDirect site to work – tickets have just gone on sale for Florence and the Machine’s New Zealand Tour at Trusts Stadium Waitakere on Thursday 29 July. After making such an impact on nzgirls this year at Laneways (and just in general through her amazing album, Lungs ) Florence has gone from indie darling to full on superstar – cemented I think at the Brit Awards performing alongside Dizzee Rascal with silver confetti streaming everywhere. What’s more superstar than that we ask? One lucky nzgirl won’t have to wait in line though, as we’ve secured a  double pass to giveaway to her show PLUS we’ve also got five copies of the deluxe edition of Lungs to giveaway.

WIN: To enter to win the double pass to see Florence and the Machine live in Auckland in July or a copy of the deluxe Lungs album, just click ‘I Want to Win’ below and tell us one question you’d ask Florence when we interview her next week.

WANTING TO PLAY WITH_Little Black Photobooth
There’s always rumours that circulate after the CAANZ Media Awards – but the one we took note of this year, was talk of a retro photobooth located in the upstairs section of the MTV hosted afterparty. Further research revealed this to be a ‘Little Black Photobooth’ - and we SO want one of these at our next soiree! Great for events, balls, corporate parties, weddings – or just maybe in the office – to capture fun moments. You just step into the booth, pull crazy faces and then receive your print-out of four shots, instantly. We want! In the meantime (while we figure out a suitable occasion), we also love the Mobile Photobooth iPhone app, which does pretty much the same thing, but in a pocket-sized form.

BOOKING TICKETS FOR_Nga Manurere – The Flock at TAPAC
We’ve just heard about this fantastic live theatre opportunity with one final show on Saturday night. Nga Manurere follows Manawa’s journey to reconnect with her son Morehu, who she gave up through whangai. She is supported by her closest friends Wei, Rina and Jess; all single mothers themselves. However each secretly harbours their own view on Manawa and the son to whom she is a stranger. The NZ Herald’s Janet mcAllister described the play’s 2009 performances as being "the suprise jewel of the year… emerging playwright Renae Maihi has wisdom, sensitivity, good pace and a fine sense of humour’. Check out more here or call 09 845 0295 to book tickets.

WIN: The first three nzgirls who call to book tickets and say they were referred by nzgirl will score a 2 for 1 ticket deal!

DRIZZLING_Telegraph Hill Balsamic Drizzle
It struck me recently that there’s not much better than delicious fresh tomatoes sliced on toasted Vogels (or ciabatta), covered in shredded basil, a bit of rock salt, cracked pepper and olive oil. That was until I discovered the delicious Balsamic Drizzle from the Hawke’s Bay’s Telegraph Hill. This reduced, caramelised oak aged balsamic vinegar is described as a perfect match for meats, salads, vegetables and even summer fruit. As for me? I love the way it just adds a little touch of luxury to a humble sandwich.  And right now, a 265ml bottle is down to $15.00 via the Telegraph Hill website. Nom nom nom!

FOR BETTER OR FOR WORSE_The nzgirl hot five promise

nzgirl’s hot five is an institution on the site – and for good reason. It’s where we share our five favourite things from the week. You can’t buy a space in the hot five, it’s at our total discretion and Tee’s dictation and we want you to know that.
