Hottest Hair Styles for 09 by Face Shape

Looking for a new hair look for 2009? We take a look at some of the biggest hair trends that are making their way through the year and match them to their perfect face shape! Making your choice for a new year look even simpler!

Oval Face: Oh La La Oval
Celeb Pairs: Jennifer Aniston, Cameron Diaz and Elle Macpherson
Your face is: Balanced, narrower at the jaw than at the temples with a round hairline
For 2009 try: The 40s side wave

Long hair can be a tricky thing for some oval shapes simply because there is so much hair to weigh down the face. The great thing about this approach to the wave is that it adds texture at the place you need it most, the side of the face. Drawing attention to your gorgeous features such as high cheekbones, but doing it in a soft and gentle way. The result is a look which combines length with texture without overwhelming your face with either!

Tip to try: Run curls through the front of your hair focussing on the length of the wave hitting around the cheekbone. Loosen with fingertips and then brush head of hair onto one shoulder – remark at its prettiness!

Rectangular or oblong Face: Ravishing Rectangle
Celeb pairs: Gwyneth Paltrow, Janet Jackson
Yoru face is: Long and slender,  with a similar width from top to bottom with the maximum of your broadness across the cheeks and eyes.
For 2009 try: The mid cut bob

Oblong faces can be pulled down by long locks and lengthened by too short ones. It’s hard to get that balance right, but of course we know a way to do it. Embrace the mid cut bob, a huge fashion focus for 2009 and Hayden’s style gets it just right. Cut around the cheekbone length and watch the balance occur, especially with a little height at the crown.

Tip to try:
Using volumising spray add a little volume to the roots gently rubbing with fingertips whilst using a hair dryer, the effect will give your whole head of hair a bit more bounce!

Round face: Rule it Round
Celep pairs: Kate Winslet and Drew Barrymore
Your face is: Full looking with a round chin and hairline. The widest point is at the cheeks and ears.
For 2009 try: The wispy wig cut

When I say wig I mean that it hasstructure (like a wig would), but also a lightness to it as well. Case and point Gwynnie’s new cut, which is a modified bob, graduated longer towards the front with wispy ends giving the hard line of her bob a bit of softness. It also means that when she wears it curly (as she did recently) the weight falls in a perfect way! Even though she has an oblong face this is a perfect new look for a round face.

Tip to try:
The next time you get a cut, add length to the front of your bob, and wispyness to the sides and backs.

Square face: Sultry Square
Celeb pairs: Sandra Bullock and Demi Moore
Your face is: A mix of a strong, square jaw line a squarish hairline.
For 2009 try: A soft romantic wave

Romantic curls are a key look for 2009, and are a nice juxtaposition to the straight locks that dominated last year. For the square face curls around the face are key, helping to break up angles and give a feeling of softness. I love the curls seen in the recent Donna Karen collection, which are simply formed using old fashioned curlers!

Tip to try: Try curling a few sections near the front of the face and then softening with your fingers into the rest of your hair. Much less effort to achieve than a full head of curls and just as dramatic.

Heart shaped face: Heavenly Heart
Celeb Pairs: Lucy Lawless, Ashley Hudd and Jennifer Love Hewitt
Your face is: Wide at the temples and hairline coming down to a small delicate chin.
For 2009 try: The pixie crop

The crop will continue to be a big trend, but with more elements of the traditional pixie haircut. The best examples will be able to be worn a multitude of ways, from sleek and sophisticated to punked up pixie.

Tip to try:
When cutting your pixie remember to leave a little length at the side of the head, adding volume here will help you balance your head as whole.
