Our favourite: NZFW 2011 New Generation
New Zealand’s fashion future is in confident hands if the New Generation show is anything to go by. Five new designers showcased their talents and very different styles in a show that had everything from a live violinist, a visit to the prairie and streetwear cool.
First up was Two Wonders who presented a gorgeous collection of dramatic evening wear, with an eastern influence in a rich colour palette and stunning gold jewellery. Followed by Deryn Schmidt who’s bright retro inspired collection was immaculately styled, beautifully tailored and a pretty trip back to the 1940’s.
Egoist presented one of the few streetwear collections this week, it was fun and very cool menswear with great styling and half moon facepaint. Katie-maree Cole followed with my favourite collection of the five inspired by ‘Little House on the Prairie’. It was effortlessly pretty and oh so wearable, I’m sure she will have the stockists lining up after that beautiful presentation.
Last up was the very colourful Emma Manhart with a 60’s influenced, tailored collection that Rainbow Brite would be a proud owner of in a good way. Overall the five designers showed just how diverse and unique New Zealand fashion is becoming, they all made good debuts and I’m sure we will be seeing more of all of them in future.
