Hot Five: 23 March 2012
This week’s Hot Five has been compiled by Sarah Smith – fashion blogger of therationaldresser.com. Discover two key pieces for your winter wardrobe PLUS the most delicious Hot Cross Bun recipe we’ve ever come across!
LUSTING FOR_Number One Shoes – Alessia Boot
If there’s only one pair of ankle boots (with a heel) you purchase this season, this has to be it. The matte look coupled with the subtle shimmer of the snake print makes this my top pick from the Number One Shoes “Sixties Festival” collection this season. $49.99 and also available in grey get your hands on them from April in Number One Shoes stores nationwide.
DEVOURING_ Cyclops Organic Frozen Yoghurt
Ice-cream is never on my shopping list. But I discovered this little gem on an emergency dash to the super to satisfy a dessert craving. There were flavoured tubs like Coffee and Mango, but I chose the plain one for two reasons, lactose intolerance (the label is easier to decipher without flavourings) and the ability to add whatever flavour I wanted at home. This is a delicious product with or without flavouring and has the added bonus of being low in sugar. Available from New World and Pak N Save for $4.99
OBSESSING OVER_Helmut Lang Wool Tuxedo Jacket
Seen on blogging style queen Kelly Framel from The Glamourai, the Helmut Lang Tux Jacket is fabulous basic, with a touch of edge, to add to any wardrobe. I bought mine new on TradeMe for a ridiculously low price and haven’t been able to quell the desire to want to wear it with just about every outfit since. It’s made of warm suiting wool and is fully lined, like all good designer jackets should be, and is one of the most versatile garments I own, making it a treasured favourite. It’s still available on the Helmut Lang website, or get a similar, more affordable option from TopShop or Witchery
BAKNG UP A STORM_Home Made Easter Buns
Not actually being a Hot Cross Bun fan, I was a little surprised that I found myself wanting to make these. But swapping out the mixed peel and sultanas for dried cranberries soaked in Chambord and dark chocolate chips sounded like the best idea ever. Just like any baking involving yeast, it takes time for the end product to surface, but it was worth the wait, these buns were so delicious I should probably be selling the recipe to the bakers of delicious goodies: Loaf. CAN’T PUT DOWN_ Yuil Ziv’s – Fashion 2.0: Blogging Your Way To The Front Row
Okay don’t snigger, I know it’s always seen as kinda lame to read books about these sorts of things, I thought the same! But I bought this book for my Kindle a few weeks ago and have powered through the first half like nothing else. Yuli Ziv is the master-fashion-mind behind Style Coalition and an utter blogging and fashion business guru. Not limited to blogging or even to fashion, this is a book for anyone looking to enhance their presence on the web or make their way in any area of the fashion industry. A must read for those seriously serious about making their own way in the fashion world.
