2006 Fashion Week: Day One
Monday’s shows ranged from punky to primp. nzgirl’s fashion editor Anya gives you the rundown on her favourite shows and talks about the trends you can start building into your wardrobe…
Favourite Show: Juliet Hogan’s collection was adorably chic. It reminded me of something out of Paris with a mix of pale pink, grey, blue with hunts of taupe. Feminine silhouettes were juxtaposed with hard tailoring and masculine cuts. It was really wearable and pretty with lots of detailing which made it for me.

Favourite Makeup: Everyone was commenting on the blue lips at Hailwood which were striking and funky. It was a great use of eye-catching makeup. Second to this I have to say the gorgeous smoky eye with a hint of blue at Kingan Jones – stunning !
Favourite Hair: I loved the hair at IPG. All the models had little curls bobby pinned or clipped to their head like a gorgeous movie star would before she went to bed in the 1940s. It was simply charming and pretty – just like her collection.
Favourite Item: Andrea Moore’s high waisted items were to die for. The women is fiendishly good when it comes to the cut of fabric

Great Direction: The mix of tailoring and relaxed fits with strong colours at Cybele (red, blue and black with hints of gold) is a really good representation of coming winter trends.

Had Them Buzzing: Two shows had folks around me literally buzzing with excitement. The first was Hailwood, with a punk-meets-classic-tailoring collection, which was as beautiful as it was funky. The second was Kingan Jones – a fellow media delegate said “That was to die for”. Full of high waists, fantastic dresses and great styling this will be a directional collection for the season.
Standout shows: (L-R) Hailwood, Hailwood, Kingan Jones, Kingan Jones
Trend to Try: Opaque tights were on the runways of everyone with super funky basic black at Cybele, purple at Kingan Jones and pretty white at Juliet Hogan.
