Style Guide: Christina Aguilera
“Christina loves sexy, body-fitting clothes, pink, she loves detail —chains or stones or lacing, but she doesn’t care about designer labels.”
Christina Aguilera’s stylist may have made a few mistakes of late (the Dirrty look anyone?) but her edgy wear-what-I-wanna-wear mentality means you never know what to expect when she steps out on stage.
Christina changes her hair almost as often as she changes her look, but her biggest change of late has been from platinum blonde to black! From cute and bobbed to stuck-my-finger-in-a-socket frizzy (Lady Marmalade) and everything in between…it’s hard to find a style that lasted more than a few months.
Christina has always said that she doesn’t like “girly girl” clothing, preferring instead to pieces that will get attention. “I do like to dress a little edgier, less conservative, whatever, and I just remember one day showing up at a photo shoot and there was a clothing rack in front of me full of all kinds of floral and laces and just very “pretty” clothes. And I just cringed. And I was like, “This is VERY not what I want to be! It’s not me!”
Her favourite labels for casual gear include Paul Frank, Joie, Bella Dahl and Juicy Couture. For going out Christina loves pieces by Roberto Cavalli, who made the pink feathered number she wore to the MTV Music Awards this year. She also likes Julien Macdonald, Rick Owens, Gaultier, Dior and Vivienne Westwood, and is tipped to be the new face of Versace.
Christina is often seen sauntering in high heels but her recent endorsement of Skechers means she’ll be strutting her stuff on stage the latest stylish Skechers trainers!
Christina loves colour, and is often seen with brightly coloured eye shadow and ruby red lips. Here’s a rundown of how you can recreate Christina’s look – subtle or dramatic!
BASE: Christina’s skin always looks tanned and glowing. Start with clean skin and apply a light-reflecting foundation.
EYES: For a subtle look, apply a pale blue/grey eye shadow to your upper eyelid only – if you want to go stage make it the brightest blue you can find and apply it right up to the brow line. Line your upper and lower lids with a thin line of black eyeliner. Next you want to put some curl into those lashes, so grab your eyelash curler and get to work. Apply two coats of black mascara to finish.
CHEEKS: Apply a sweep of blusher just below your cheekbones and blend upwards. You want a glow so don’t be afraid to put on a little more than usual if you’re heading out for a big night.
LIPS: Prepare your lips by dabbing on a little face powder – this will help give your lip colour some longevity. Line your lips with a red lip liner then fill in lightly with the liner. Top with two coats of the rubiest red lippy you can find and you’re ready to hit the streets.
