With all the hype surrounding the new movie release of SEX AND THE CITY, it could be very easy to walk out of the cinema feeling a little disappointed. After all it has been four years of rumors, excitement and anticipation…
But, when it comes to the ultimate girls fantasy flick, this is it! I don’t know many ladies who wouldn’t kill to spend a few hours in the lives of Carrie, Samantha, Miranda or Charlotte. With a lifestyle filled with Prada purses, Manolo’s and Diane Von Furstenberg dresses, topped with off swanky parties, VIP friends, gorgeous men and lavish inner city apartments, it really is glamorous fantasy at its best!
Carrie tells us at the beginning that girls in their 20s move to New York to find the two L’s: Labels and Love. And, in its simplest form, that’s what this movie is all about.
When we meet the girls again we find nothing much has changed since we last saw them – they’re all just as we left them, blissfully in love. However they’re a bit older, a bit more mature and a bit more sensible. Shock horror – they’re starting to nest!
When Carrie and Big decide that after 10 years of dating it’s time to make it official by getting married, it signals a big change. The once forever single city girl will be single no more!
It’s not all smooth sailing, and it’s not all about Carrie. Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha are having highs and lows of their own when it comes to love. Charlotte has adopted a baby and is settling into her motherhood and martial bliss, Miranda splits with her hubby and the ever horny Samantha has moved to LA and is coming to terms with the fact that she’s in a long term relationship.
Expect tears and laughs; this flick is made from the original SEX AND THE CITY formula, with high drama sob stories mixed with hilariously straight up humor. Nothing’s too crazy for these girls, and it’s comforting to see that even such glam girls have the same issues and embarrassing situations as us mere mortals…
This film is almost as much about the plot, as it is about the fashion (L number two – labels). With 300 costume changes, you can expect some outrageously amazing fashion – it’s bold, adventurous and very, very glamorous.
Don’t be fooled into thinking that if you never watched the TV show, you won’t enjoy the movie. Whether you’re a complete SEX AND THE CITY virgin, or a die hard fan you’ll be able to follow the plot and fall in love with the characters all over again.
SEX AND THE CITY is exactly what you could ever have hoped that it would be, it really is the best of the TV series compressed into one two and a half hour flick that will have you leaving the cinema with a huge smile plastered across your face. It seriously is the ultimate chick flick - labels and love, it’s all any girl needs! Ramarea
