When it comes to parking you can never have enough helpful advice and words of wisdom to get you through!
As part of this month's theme, 'The Savvy nzgirl's Guide to Life' we've compiled the nzgirl 10 Commandments of Parking. If you've ever had an 'OMG' moment while trying to squeeze into a dodgy parallel park or while flustering about trying to find one, then this will be your lifesaver!
Ramarea, Editor Stalk, stalk stalk until you find a park. Follow a person who looks like they’re about to leave, as in bags in hand, whipping out their keys and stalk em’ until they hop in their car and drive off. Voila!
Sarah, Art Director If you're no good at parallel parking, make sure you leave the house a little bit earlier so then you can drive around until you find an angle park!
Vicky, Account Manager
Use your mirrors! Move them up and down so that you can comfortably use them to gauge your distance with the curb. Pull up to the car beside you (in front of the space you’re after) so that you’re about a meter from the car, and so that you’re aligned with their side view mirrors. Turn your wheel the complete circle to the left or right (depending on what side you’re parking on) then let it pull back ¼ of the way. Then back it in, using your mirrors as a guide.
Nadia, Account Executive My one is to simply use the car behind you (who has already parked) and make sure you line up with them. Also I start turning once I have gone straight back and have gone past the first door of the car in front.
Isla, Content Producer If you’ve got a manual, make sure to leave your car in gear if parked on a hill (learnt from past experiences!).

Tee, Editor-in-Chief Make it easy on yourself - consider downsizing your vehicle! Cruising around in the Flossie Fleet Smart cars - any space is a park! Genius!
Bonnie, Commercial Director Take note of how much space is between the cars already parked in front and behind of you – don’t box someone in! You don’t want bad parking karma!
Anya, Beauty and Style Manager Park in the shade. Why, you may ask? Well when it’s hot not only does your car bake and get all yuck and hot, but the sun also zaps fuel from your gas tank! Not so great with petrol prices the way they are, so always park in the shade.
Jenene, Managing Director Use shop windows as a mirror so that you can see how far in front or behind you are from the cars around you. However, if all fails and you’re completely crap, get yourself a tow bar…it will save your paint!
