Ten Reasons We Heart Shaky Isles

*Free coffee offer is no longer valid

We heart new cafe Shaky Isles so much we wanted to share with you our top ten reasons we love it - it was hard to stay on task to just ten! Turns out they love nzgirls too and want to give you free coffee...

Reason One: The Cutest Characters Ever!
When you walk into Shaky and look around, the place is full of crazy characters - on the walls, the mirrors and hiding in the coffee cups. While you may already be familiar with the Where The Wild Things Are dude, you should definitely make friends with the cute Shaky Isles monsters, like this guy who's riding a banana and fucking loving it!

Reason Two: The Takeaway Cups
Not only do Shaky rock 'The Longest Drink In Town' milkshake cups, they've also got the cutest takeaway cups in the whole world - the flat white size reads 'Drink Coffee. Straddle Large Mammals' complete with a little monster straddling a large mammal! Key-ute! It almost makes you want to order takeaway even if you're eating in...

Reason Three: The Lights
I tried to capture the awesome-ness of the lighting arrangement, but the photos didn't do it justice - so you'll just have to check them out for yourself! Stemming from a central point in the ceiling, strands of wire with lightbulbs attached hang out around the perimeter of the cafe. It's little details like this that make Shaky special!

Reason Four: The Teaspoons!
Nothing about this place is uniform - including the cute vintage teaspoons! They join you at your table when you order a hot drink to eat-in. This makes you feel better about not getting the cute takeaway cups.

Reason Five: Shaky Isles Hot Chocolates - the deluxe edition!
If you want to deluxe your usual hot chocolate experience, make sure you try the Shaky Isles version - complete with a Whittakers Sante bar swizzle stick! Well actually, to be honest, even though it's a deluxe version of your usual hot choc - this is the standard at Shaky!

Reason Six: Yummy Food Everywhere
Like Pikelets with Raspberry Jam and Marscapone ($8.50) for a girlie afternoon tea, or Good Stuff in a Sandwich ($8.50) containing mushrooms, avocado, rocket and gruyere cheese on a sourdough with tomato and chipotle relish.

Reason Seven: Affordable Prices
As well as having a fabulously creative menu, Shaky offers you these treats at a very reasonable price! You can get a coffee and a lunch meal for just over $10. Try talking about Auckland prices now!

Reason Eight: The Friendly Staff
Whether you're being looked after by the lovely Donna, Shaky's friendly manager or the rest of the crew, you can be assured of a fantastic experience! They're helpful, know their stuff and are super quick and efficient in getting your meals out to you!

Reason Nine: Free Wi-Fi
Sometimes you just don't want to work at your desk, you want to answer emails eating spinach and gruyere fritters. Sometimes you want to peruse your favourite blog and sup on a caramel milkshake in the company of monsters. Now you can do either activity from the comfort and warmth of Shaky thanks to their free Wi-Fi service. Bust some nuts!

Reason Ten: Great Location!
Shaky Isles can be found nestled in Kingsland - a location we love at nzgirl because it's so full of culture and cool stuff! They're right next door to the Royal Jewellery Studio and just down the road from Phoenix Cosmetics. Parking can sometimes be a mish with everyone wanting to be in on the action at this inner city suburb - but those in the know, head to the parking down the side of the Shaky Isles building.

If you want to check out Shaky Isles for yourself, head down and check 'em out at 492 New North Road, in Kingsland. Don't forget, click here to check out their special 2-for-1 deal on coffee on our Arts Insider page.
