___________________________________________________________________________ Name:Amber Jenkins (well, now Amber Ardern!) Partner's Name: Brent Ardern Ages: I’m 28 and Brent is 29
Where was the ceremony held? Pinot, Remuera, Auckland (owned by The Relish Group).
Who designed your dress? It was an Essence dress (Australian label) but I picked it out from Brides Corner in Manukau.
Who took your photos? Bruce Gabites, Fine Photography (He was fantastic! Check him out at www.finephotography.co.nz). Which is your favourite shot? A black and white shot of us walking back up the aisle once we were married. We look really happy so it captures the moment perfectly.
How long did you spend organising the wedding? We got engaged when we were living in London so it was years before I actually walked down the aisle. I booked the venue and photographer 18 months out but everything else was less than a year in the planning.
Did you decide to change your name? Yep, I’m now Mrs Ardern! It was the ultimate commitment for me.
How did you spend the time leading up to the ceremony? I spent the days leading up to the wedding getting pampered – spray tan, nails, hair, makeup… Bliss! The day of the wedding I woke up after a great nights sleep, went for a big walk with my Dad and best friend/bridesmaid Janelle, then we grabbed some brekkie out at a café. No nerves had kicked in yet so I was feeling really excited (everyone else around me was nervous which was the funny thing). We spent the afternoon getting our hair and makeup done, then it was back to Mum and Dad’s to get into my dress and have photos. The day flew by and soon I was in the car on the way to the venue.
What moments brought tears to your eyes? As soon as I heard our wedding music ('Tender' by Blur) I cried and had to stop myself from blubbering so I didn’t ruin my make up! Then I had a few tears running down my cheek during the ceremony when the celebrant read out the words Brent had sent her about why he loved me. Oh, and then I cried again when I thanked my parents and my best friend in my speech. All tears of happiness though!
What song did you dance to? ‘Something’ by The Beatles.
Any funny moments from the reception? Our Best Man and Bridesmaid did their speech together and it was hilarious. The guests are still talking about it. It’s hard to explain but there was interpretive dance including the 'Dove of Love' (it was a joke!).
Any advice for brides to be? Relax. It’s an amazing day so simply enjoy it because it goes so quickly. Don’t worry about the weather (you can’t change it), don’t worry if the cake falls over (it’s only a cake), don’t worry, don’t worry, don’t worry… It all works out perfectly in the end!
Hair and makeup by? Absolute Hair and Beauty in Newmarket.
Number of attendants? 144
What was your bridal car? A Black Rolls Royce Silver Wraith from First Class Classics
Any Bridezilla moments? None, woohoo! Although I did almost have one at the wedding when the venue told us we had to pack out all the entertainment equipment and gifts that night even though we’d organised to do it the next day. All was resolved eventually, so no bridezillas here!
Furtherest travel for a guest? Two of our closest friends traveled all the way from London.
