It’s so easy to put together a travel blog and it’s even easier to write one.
It doesn’t matter whether you are trekking through the deepest, darkest forests of Borneo or living it up on the French Riviera, there is no excuse for not keeping your loved ones back home updated (and making them a bit jealous)!
It doesn’t matter if you don’t have much writing experience because you will be writing about real and awesome things that happened to you! You won’t need much more inspiration than that.
If you are keen to put together a blog you should set it up before you leave home. There are several dedicated travel blog sites like www.mytripjournal.com and http://blogs.statravel.co.nz. Mytripjournal isn’t the most attractive looking site but you can map and update your travel country by country and it has privacy controls. The STA blogs are free if you are a customer, and are quite easy to navigate. If you don’t want to set up a separate blog you can always use your Facebook page.
Once you have set it up and told everyone about then you will need to get down to business.
Personal experiences and observations will bring your blog to life. Everyone knows that the Eiffel Tower is in Paris but your friends and family will want to know how you felt while looking out over Paris (and about that cute French guy who smiled at you). We all know Egypt has the pyramids but what about the spooky experience you had in one of the tombs? Pick out one interesting story from each leg of your travel and make it the feature.
Interesting photos are really important. Be ruthless when picking out what photos you want to use illustrate your story. While groups shots are interesting to you, too many will bore your friends and family at home because they may not know who’s in the photo with you. They really want to see photos of you having a great time whether you are eating some exotic dish in Asia or partying it up with your new found friends in Europe. Also, don’t include too many photos to go with your entry – try and keep it to a max of 15 per entry. After all, everyone will get to see the holiday snaps when you get home…
Make sure you update your blog regularly because if you follow these tips your fans will be hanging out for more! Seriously though, blogs that are out of date are boring! It doesn’t matter how long or short your experience is, make sure you write about it. It’s also a good idea to make a note of any highlights you experience while travelling and to write your blog entry while ideas are still fresh in your mind.
They say that practice makes perfect – so get experiencing and writing. Happy travels!
