We all love a bit of St Patty’s day craziness, but there’s a fine line between Irish-induced fun and over-the-top-tackiness.
We have five easy steps to help you throw a St Patrick’s Day party that’s pure-class, rather than last year’s pub-crawl-chunder-in-the-street experience! St Patrick’s Day takes place on March 17, but those fun-loving Irish are good at dragging the celebrations out, so expect plenty of events over the next few days. Step One: Décor. Don’t go overboard with $2 Shop shamrocks and leprechauns. It really is true that a little bit of green goes a very long way! Instead try for a more upmarket look with strings of green beads, green glass bottles and serving dishes with cool Celtic symbols. Gold or silver both make great accents to green and allow you to inject a sophisticated burst of metallic. Step Two: Drinks If you like to chug back Guinness then go for it, but you’ll probably find most nzgirls prefer something a little more sophisticated. Our favourite Irish inspired drink is a Jameson & Dry. This tasty beverage combines Jameson Irish Whiskey with a splash of ginger ale over ice, finished off with a slice of lime – it’s too tasty and doesn’t leave you with nasty beer belly bloating! Step Three: Eats You don’t need to extend your food choices to traditional Irish fare. After all, stew and potatoes aren’t the most party-friendly foods! Instead indulge your guests with some decadently dark chocolate, which will perfectly complement the whiskey. We love Devonport Chocolates for to-die-for, melt in your mouth treats. Step Four: Sounds When it comes to music the Irish are pure genius so you’ll have plenty to choose from. Kick off with ethereal Enya, enjoy one hit wonders from the Cranberries, reminisce to the Corrs and bring out U2’s entire back catalogue. Of course you’ll need to include a couple of tracks from the Pogues – it just wouldn’t be St Patrick’s Day otherwise! Step Five: Attire The most important step of all is finding a St Patrick’s Day inspired outfit that suits you. There are plenty of shades of green from deep emeralds to sparkling teals so make sure you pick a hue that works with your skin tone. If green just isn’t your thing buy a length of apple hued ribbon and use it as a sash on your favourite little black dress. Secure it with a vintage brooch and you have the perfect party ready look!
