Gemma, nzgirl’s editor, got engaged early last year, so she’s going to keep you posted as she plans the wedding, which takes place in March.

I can’t believe a month has gone by since I wrote my last column and it’s now only one week and four days to the wedding! I’ve got that excited sense of anticipation bubbling away, which seems to make it very hard to relax enough to sleep properly (hope I get over that soon, dark circles are not pretty). It’s been a whirlwind few weeks – last Saturday I went out for dinner with a bunch of girlfriends for a bit of a hen’s party. The night started with games at my chief bridesmaid’s flat, which quickly got debaucherous (damn shots!). It didn’t help that I was forced to wear fluro pink leggings (which I “accidentally” lost before we went into town – oops!), pink gloves, a sparkly belt, a pink veil and a pink baseball cap (oh and I had pink fluffy handcuffs and a heart shaped paddle – fun times!). I did a good job of completing my assigned tasks, even if dancing on a table (very briefly) almost got me thrown out of one bar. I had a great night and was very impressed with my friends’ staying power on the dance floor. The week before my lovely bridesmaids had also organised an old school style kitchen tea with the female wedding guests. Everyone brought their favourite recipe along and I got a lovely book to put them all in (given my lack of cooking skills, these will come in very handy!). We stuffed our faces with delicious food, played some fun games and everyone got to know each other, which I’m sure will make the wedding even better. It hasn’t been all fun and games though, I had to endure a trip to the Department of Internal Affairs to get my marriage licence – word of warning, allow plenty of time for this, it ended up taking about 50 minutes, and I’m not a very patient queue waiter. (Other Ed's note, this is a perfect task for the other member of the nuptials to take on!) Now the only major thing left to sort out is my surname. Over two years ago I wrote an editorial on this very topic (you can ch .jpg) eck it out here) and to be honest, my thoughts still echo this! I keep going round in circles about whether I will or not, but to cover my bases I’ve already set up an email address under my potential new name! Hopefully I’ll come to a decision about it soon. Unfortunately one of my remaining wisdom teeth has flared up and I’ve been in pain with that for the last weeks. I can’t get it out this close to the wedding as I don’t want to risk a puffy face, so I think I might just have to grin and bear it and hope it goes away! Good luck to all the nzgirls with weddings coming up over the next few weeks (I know there are a few of you out there!) and I promise I’ll send through some photos after the big day. Gemma xxx .jpg)
