When you're single, it can be easy to ignore Valentine's Day - but why miss out on all the fun?
Use it as an opportunity to celebrate your singledom. We’ve pulled together a list of fab things you can do to have fun and embrace the idea of love. Think of it as a day to love yourself, rather than someone else - see, isn’t it sounding better already?!
Go shopping Seeing as you're single and don’t have to worry about buying anyone else pressies, spend some of your hard earnt money on yourself! Hit the shops to find something you absolutely adore, or jump online and get clicking (check out our Fashion Directory for the hottest shopping sites). Whatever you do, don’t feel guilty. Remember, this is your chance to treat yourself. Buy a beautiful dress, some funky earrings or some stunning new shoes -whatever your heart desires.
DVD fest You may not have a real life Romeo (yet!), but that doesn’t mean you can’t imagine it! Pull out all your fav DVDs - be they lovey, funny or just plain random - and escape the world for a few hours. Think of your favourite flicks - Dirty Dancing, Pretty Woman and The Notebook are all goodies (click here for more ideas), and stock up on yummy movie snacks like microwave popcorn, chocolate and ice cream! To make it more fun invite your girlfriends or maybe that hot guy from work (if you’re feeling keen!).
Pamper yourself
Now is the time to treat yourself! Book a facial or massage (or if you’re feeling extra indulgent both) at your fav day spa. Consult the beautician for a facial specifically suited to your skin type. Such a pampering experience is bound to leave you feeling and looking gorgeous! If you’re not so keen on splashing out, try DIY. Go the full hog and give yourself a mani, pedi and facial. We’ve got some great DIY Beauty Treatments here.
Go out for dinner
Grab your other single girlfriends (or the ones with the slack boyfriends) and splurge on a delicious meal at a great restaurant. To make a real night out of it pick a theme and go all out. You could try a Latin theme - go to a Mexican restaurant, dress in Spanish inspired clothes or just take on the style of a sexy Latin diva like Eva Longoria (click here to find out how), drink margaritas and try a bit of salsa dancing! If you can’t make it out, you can always take the DIY option and have a cook-off at home.
Secret Admirer
To make sure you’re feeling loved on Valentine’s, organise a secret admirer gift exchange amongst your friends. This works just like the whole secret Santa thing - draw names, set a price limit and buy your person a cute little pressie. The only difference is the gift has to be delivered to your recipient's place of work - this makes sure you’ll all receive at least one gorgeous gift for Valentine’s and get to show off to all your co-workers that you are indeed loved!
Party On
If you’re game you could try hosting a party with all your friends this weekend. Ask everyone to bring a single person along (preferably of the opposite sex so you can keep numbers even). Make sure you’ve got loads of yummy party foods and snazzy drinks (check out the Cocktail Corner for ideas), pimp out the music and you’re set. Throw in some cute Valentine’s touches - we love the Spin the Bottle Kit (Southern Publishers, $12.99) for hilarious laughs and maybe a sneaky pash! This way you’re not only having fun with all your friends, you’re also opening up to the possibility of meeting some delicious new people…
