About You
Wedding Diary 9: One Month to Go

Gemma, nzgirl’s editor, got engaged early last year, so she’s going to keep you posted as she plans the wedding, which takes place in March.

If you missed the first entry click here to read all about the proposal.

I can’t believe my wedding is next month!

Amber, nzgirl’s general manager, is getting married this Saturday and watching her go through all the last minute details has made it all seem more real for me.

Although watching her have to deal with the “fireman” stripper we got to come into the office was a bit scary! If you want to send off a bride with lots of laughs check out www.levionline.co.nz - he’s the best!.

Luckily I finally feel like I’ve got on top of the major things I hadn’t organised, although my to-do list isn’t getting any smaller! Then there’s our honeymoon/holiday around Europe, which still needs a fair bit of organising. Having the wedding and trip so close together doesn’t seem like such a good idea now!

Thank goodness for my mum, who is still being amazing. Last weekend she organised a working bee and got friends and family around to help out with all sorts of bits and pieces.

It was swelteringly hot and uncomfortable, so I was pretty touched that everyone was willing to give up a Sunday afternoon to help out. Due to my general lack of craft ability, I was tasked with tying ribbons around the napkins (oh, the joys of renting a hall and having to do everything yourself!).

I’ve also had my makeup trial. I found a great makeup artist at the Bobbi Brown counter in the new Albany Farmers and she did a great job. She managed to give me a flawless looking base, which lasted all the way through a very long, hot night of cocktail drinking - highly impressive!

When it comes to wedding makeup, you definitely don’t want to forgo the trial. Even though I loved my makeup, there were a few minor things I wanted to change, and it’s much easier to realise that now than have to deal with them on the day.

We finally managed to get our invites out last month (that was a big relief!) and are just waiting to hear back from a few more people. But of course, with the invites came the need to sort out a gift registry...

We dithered over what to do for  ages. We knew we had to set one up because we’ve been living together for so long and didn’t want loads of toasters, but we just couldn’t decide which store to use. Plus, gift registries bug me a bit because you have to be so specific about what you want, even for things where the actual make and model don't matter.

I finally stumbled upon www.whattogive.com which is a free online site that lets you set up your own registry, which people can then mark gift off. The layout is incredibly ugly, but it does the job and meant we could just make general suggestions as to the things we need and the colours we like, without having to make too many decisions!

I’ve also remembered that way back in one of my first diaries, I commented on our lack of dancing ability and my plans to start practicing early. Unfortunately that hasn’t happened and we only picked our first dance song last week. (It's ‘Sail Away’ by David Grey - please don’t tell me if you don’t like it, as it took us a very long time to decide on!).

We’ve run out of time for lessons, so Paul has been combing the internet to find some sort of online dance tutorial. Given his natural sense of rhythm he’ll be fine, but I’m just too un-co to not look like a klutz!

Other than my terror of looking like a dork on the dancefloor, I’m feeling pretty relaxed about it all, well except for the hen’s night my bridesmaids are organising - from the snippets I've gleaned I'm starting to feel worried.

Hopefully I'll have some good stories from that for next time!

Gemma xxx
