Gemma, nzgirl’s editor, got engaged early last year, so she’s going to keep you posted as she plans the wedding.

Wow, I’m in my eighth month of wedding planning and I can’t believe how fast time is flying by. In just 7.5 short weeks I’ll be married, which is a crazy thought.
In fact make that a crazy-inducing thought - there are lots of loose ends to wrap up. I keep thinking of things I’ve forgotten to do and writing them on post-it notes so I don’t forget. Unfortunately I then just stick the post-its in my wedding folder (yes, I have a wedding folder. No, it’s not pink) and ignore them. I really need to develop a better system. As the wedding gets closer there are so many little things I have to remember to schedule in, from meeting with the photographer to confirming numbers to the caterer. Oh yeah, then there’s the fact we still haven’t got our invites out, so at the moment we don’t have any guests! (Lack of actual inviting aside, our invites are amazing - Sarah, nzgirl’s art director did the best design and my wonderful friend Jared from Solution Print is getting them sussed for me). I’m so paranoid I’ll forget to do something important (like, I don’t know, actually get the marriage certificate) that tonight I’m going to uber-geek it and set up an Excel timetable of everything that needs to be done before March 15 so it’s easier to tick things off as I go. We’ve had a few minor freak outs. My mum and I did a test .jpg) table set up over Christmas to get an idea of how it would all look. Unfortunately we discovered that the (really cool) tablecloths we’d found didn’t look right against the rest of the setting so we’ve had to return them and are on the hunt for something else. I had also planned to buy lots of fairy lights before Christmas to decorate the hall with. Unfortunately I totally forgot and when I hit the shops the day after Boxing Day there were none to be found. Luckily one of my bridesmaids has come to the rescue and offered me the ones she used for her wedding. I also still haven’t sorted my hairdresser or makeup artist, which is so stupid! I keep changing my mind about where I want to get ready, but I just need to knuckle down and make a decision, otherwise I’m going to end up being one very scary looking bride! I’ve been trying to exercise regularly so I’m looking toned for the big day. Unfortunately this has backfired a bit as I have a tendency to lose weight around my upper torso (ok, mostly my boobs) and my dress, which previously fit like a glove, is now a size to big - not a good look! I’m hoping my mother can work miracles and get it sitting right again otherwise I’m screwed. .jpg) On the plus side, the veil I found online looks perfect with my dress, although for some bizarre reason the underwear I bought especially doesn’t - in fact it gives the worst VPL ever, so it’s back to the drawing board on those. We also found great shirts for Paul and the groomsmen at Barkers. The colours tone in with the bridesmaid dresses perfectly, which was no easy task - that shade is very hard to match to! I’ve also had so many great emails from readers with wonderful music suggestions and other wedding planning tips. They've helped me realise everyone goes through the same things. We’re still finalising exactly which song will be going where, but I’ll make sure I keep you posted. Until next time (when it will be down to one month to go - eek) Gemma xxx .jpg)
