About You
Wedding Entertainment Ideas

There are so many options for wedding entertainment these days, no matter your budget.

From rock bands to circus performers, mechanical surfboards to string quartets, you’ll totally love some of these ideas and wonder why anyone would even consider the others!

Crank up the iPod
If you don’t want to spend a bunch on entertainment, but you still want music and speeches (of course!), how about hiring a PA system? Depending on the size of your venue, prices range from about $80 to $300. You can generally hook these up to your iPod - you might want to nominate someone else to be DJ for the night though, you’ll be too busy dancing! Check out www.partyzone.co.nz and www.partydirect.co.nz

Rock a band
If you’ve got some extra cash to burn, how about a live band? They’ll add fantastic atmosphere to your wedding, and they usually come with awesome sound systems. Bands generally cost anywhere from $1,000 to $5,000 (for the really good ones) for a 3-4 hour performance, so start saving now. Plus, you could always go for a covers band - there are plenty around! Try www.brassmonkey.co.nz.

Bring back the DJ
If you don’t want to splash out on a live band, you can
always go for a DJ. They’re still quite popular for weddings, and they’ll generally play (mostly) what you want. DJs are generally about $500 to $1500 (but this depends on location, how many disco lights you want etc!). Just beware that it could turn into a 70s or 80s request fest… and you’ll definitely want to meet them first!

Celebrity speakers
If you’ve got maximum moolah to spend, why not fly over an all-American celebrity? You can spend $200,000+ for the likes of Billy Crystal, Donald Trump and Dr. Phil - or you
could go cheap-styles and pay $30-50k for the likes of
Carmen Electra or moon man Buzz Aldrin. Check out www.allamericanspeakers.com.

Cabaret baby

If you wanna go super-wacky, how about hiring a character such as PC the Plod (a bumbling policeman), a Captain Cook statue or Mr Walnut the Balloon Man… or even a cabaret choice?! Okay, so probably not conventional choices for a wedding… but you never know… Prices (and no doubt quality) vary widely; check out
the options at www.bandsforhire.co.nz.
