Challenges for January










It’s a new year, which means many of you will be thinking about what you want to get out of 2008. Instead of wasting your time on New Year’s resolutions you’ll have forgotten by February, use our challenges to revitalise your life.

TAME
  • Aim to laugh every day. Life is a lot more enjoyable when you’re having fun, so make it a resolution to find joy in everything. Whether it’s wowing your colleagues with a daily joke or just breaking out of serious work mode to enjoy a giggle with a friend, you’ll quickly learn that happy people attract happiness.
  • Send out thank you notes. It’s a bit of a lost art these days, but friends and relatives who sent you gifts or kept you fed over Christmas will appreciate you taking the time to post them a note. Plus you can enjoy the fun task of choosing pretty stationery or cards to express your gratitude on.

    INTERMEDIATE
  • Cover your contents. Check your insurance policy and make sure your cover is high enough. It’s also a good idea to photograph precious jewellery and keepsakes and make sure anything important is named on your policy. It’s not a fun job, but if something happens you’ll be glad you did… especially at this time of the year when burglaries are high. Don’t have contents insurance? Then sort it!
  • Talk to strangers. Does it sometimes strike you how little we interact with people outside our own small social sphere? Take the time to chat to those you normally wouldn’t - whether it’s exchanging pleasantries with the barista making your coffee or striking up a conversation with the man sitting beside you on the bus.

    CHALLENGING
  • Find a sport. Did you hate school P.E. with a passion? It’s time to let go of all those negative associations and find a sport you can really enjoy. Playing sport is a fun way to keep fit, plus you’ll make new friends and get yourself out of your comfort zone. If it really freaks you out, convince a friend to come with you - that way you can keep each other accountable and practice together.
  • Increase your knowledge. It’s so easy to get caught up on the work, eat and sleep treadmill that you forget to find ways to enrich your mind. Concentrate on stimulating your brain in some small way every day, whether it’s reading a book, researching a news topic or
    visiting a gallery. Not only will this stretch your brain,
    but it should give you lots of interesting things to talk about!
