They came, they sewed, they tailored, and off the runway they went, never to be seen again... until now.
So just what has been happening in the lives of the winners and losers of Project Runway?
Jay now homeless? Super cool winner Jay McCarroll (Season One) shocked producers when he turned down the $100,000 prize money, along with a chance to be mentored by designers from Banana Republic (he would have owed producers 10% of his earnings forever if he’d accepted). He’s designed clothes for… wait for it… McDonalds (check out the Ugly Betty-esque poncho here) – and it looks like he may have been given a lifetime supply of Maccas too. Jay’s also helped to pick contestants for future seasons of PR, and starred in a one-hour documentary called Project Jay. He recently spread rumours about himself, saying he was broke and homeless. However, he appears to be a rising star in the fashion world so watch this space.
Austin lives his wedding dreams And what of the spectacularly flamboyant Austin Scarlett? Check out his uber-dramatic website www.austinscarlett.com. He’s been living his dream, creating wedding dresses for designer Amsale Aberra for her Kenneth Pool line. The super-hot dresses are made to order in New York and sell for between US$4,000-10,000. And yes, it looks like he’s still a fan of super-shiny lip gloss.
Wendy goes down The ever controversial Wendy Pepper (remember the slightly older contestant with the grey skunk streak through her hair?) also has her own website www.wendypepper.com and a haute couture designer collection. She credits PR with ruining her five-year marriage, saying the experience ‘changed her’. She tried to open a store in Virginia but it failed. She’s since appeared in Celebrity Poker Showdown and Battle of the Network Reality Stars… need we say more.
Kara dresses the stars Kara Saun (who came second in Season One) is now a costume designer for TV sitcoms like Eve and What I Like About You. She’s also created dresses for America’s Next Top Model. Check out one of her recent collections here and at her website www.karasaun.com.
Don’t judge Santino Santino (from Season Two) has been a judge on Miss America 2006 and was asked to design a dress for MTV VJ SuChinPak. Whenever you see his name can’t you just hear designer mentor Tim Gun crooning ‘Santiiiino’?!
Chloe earns a lot of Dao Season Two winner Chloe Dao continues to run her Houston fashion boutique Lot 8. A 13-piece collection she showed on an American home shopping network sold out during the broadcast (Marie Osmond sells dolls on the same channel).
