Wedding Diary 4: Bridesmaids and Colours
|
|
Gemma, nzgirl’s editor, has just got engaged, so she’s going to keep you posted as she plans the wedding.
If you missed the first entry click here to read all about the proposal.
I’ve read lots of good advice about the importance of picking your bridesmaids carefully, but to be honest I didn’t have a lot of choice in the matter.
My sister decided years ago she was going to be one and my two best friends went without saying!
As much as I love these three girls, the downside is that they’re all stick thin and tall. I know it sounds self-obsessed and precious, but I have to admit to being concerned that I’d look like a short stumpy bride in my photos! It’s all about perspective though and as someone said, at least they’ll make the photos look great.
So, I’ve put my insecurities aside and fought the urge to dress them in horribly unflattering dresses (although not before I tricked my sister into believing she’d be wearing a hideous, frothy pink number… she handled it very well!).
I put off choosing the “colour scheme” for the wedding until I’d found the bridesmaids dresses as I knew as soon as I picked colours I’d never be able to find dresses in those hues.
I had a pretty clear idea of the type of dresses I wanted. Because my dress is very soft and floaty, I didn’t want the bridesmaids in heavy satin or traditional ball gown styles. Also because I had to buy three, I also didn’t want them in anything too expensive either!
I started keeping an eye out on the chain stores and ended up discovering the perfect dresses at EziBuy, of all places! The Emerge Lattice Dress is made from 100% silk and the style complements my gown perfectly.
The best bit? These dresses sell for a meagre $89.95 each – definitely wallet friendly! The colour did, however, present a slight problem as I wasn’t exactly sure what to put with it. I’d had my heart set on a very soft pink and silver colour scheme and in the end decided the dresses would work into this fine.
All three girls will have a bouquet of soft pink roses (once I find a florist that doesn’t charge scary prices… who knew flowers were so expensive?!) and wear silver shoes. I’m also on the lookout for a pink and silver hued necklace to tie their look together and they’ll have their hair loosely curled and pulled half up.
The next mission was figuring out my table centre pieces, which was a huge task in itself! Read all about my creative and cost saving solutions next month. I’ll probably have a good moan about my guest list angst as well!
