Which TV show you would put the phone off the hook for? We asked around the nzgirl office to find out what the television favourites are.
Read on for some great couch viewing ideas this winter…
Sarah, Art Director: That 70's Show I really enjoyed the first couple of seasons of That 70's Show. I just loved the clothes, the witty dialogue, and the love triangle story between Eric, Donna and Hyde in Season One especially. But that was when I was a swooning teenager. Favourite quote from Hyde (the best character): "Out there is the truth. The truth is out there, man!"
Jenene, Managing Director: Criminal Intent With all the good-uns’ finishing up for the year, the pickings are slim. But I do love a good crime show and my favourite would have to be Criminal Intent. It’s fast moving, it’s intelligent, it has great engaging actors and it’s worth an appointment view.
Amber, Marketing Manager: Top Chef I love Top Chef even though it makes me really hungry watching it. The series starts off with 15 chefs from all over America who compete for the prestigious title of “Top Chef” including funds to help them kick start their own restaurant. Each episode has two challenges – the quick fire test and the elimination challenge which tests their creative culinary skills. It’s reality TV and food mixed into one. You get the bitchy chefs, the suspense of finding out who will be eliminated, and amazing tips and ideas for your own cooking.
Vicky, Marketing Assistant: Prison Break and Outrageous Fortune It’s a tough tie between Prison Break and Outrageous Fortune. Prison Break (although it has finished for the season) was one of those programs you couldn’t miss without losing track of what was going on so it fast became a Wednesday night ritual. However, now that Outrageous Fortune is back on TV3, this is one that can’t be missed either. I’m usually such a nana mid-week (wanting to go to bed at 9:30pm), but now I can’t. Outrageous Fortune is definitely worth staying up for. So many laughs and scandals – it’s brilliant!
Eve, Sub-Editor: The Office I’m not much of a TV watcher, but I have to say that an episode of The Office will always keep me entertained and have me rolling round in laughter. Ricky Gervais (who wrote, directed and stars in the show) is absolute gold and makes the show in his role as David Brent. The Office is full of great awkward, embarrassing moments, which make for hilarious viewing. The Extras (also created by Gervais) is another series of great British comedy, which is guaranteed to crack me up. I pity the woman who had to sit next to me on a flight while I watched back-to-back episodes of The Extras and laughed my head off the whole way.
Gemma, Editor: Project Runway Now that Grey’s is over, I have to admit to a secret fascination with Project Runway. I don’t know if it’s Tim’s fantastic accent (“Carry on people, carry on…”), the motley bunch of contestants or the glamourous outfits they create, but this show has me hooked. Even my fiancé – who still doesn’t know the difference between a dress and a skirt – gets caught up in it. It’s just a shame they play it on Friday nights, because it definitely takes precedent over catching up with my friends (and now I’m so busted as to why I was an hour late to my friend’s birthday last Friday - oops!).
