Every girl should know by now that good things come in small packages. These four books may be little, but they are extremely useful (and they look super-cute on the coffee table!)
The Dating Repair Kit – How to Have a Fabulous Love Life, Marni Kamins and Janice Macleod The Dating Repair Kit, is a groovy little book. The authors previously co-wrote the best-selling The Breakup Repair Kit, and they certainly have a way with words. Their no-nonsense attitude will work you through fun ‘healing’ exercises designed to rid you of emotional baggage, with inspirational quotes and cute cartoons thrown in. It’s full of snuggly comforting thoughts and plenty of wise relationship comments. I enjoyed their “Five steps to a great love life”. When life gets tough, this book will be your cheerleader. Aww, shucks. Southern Publishers Group, RRP $35.99
How To Tell If Your Boyfriend Is The AntiChrist, Patricia Carlin As far as titles go, this book takes the cake. How To Tell…is a hilariously morbid little picture book. Each new page lists warning signs to look for in your boyfriend, just in case he is some sort of freak. For instance, on the How To Tell If Your Boyfriend Is A Ghost page, girls must look out for boys who appear as white haze in photographs. To tell if your boyfriend is a Zombie? Check him for dry flaky skin, unruly hair and a permanent stink (from the putrefaction, of course). Other boyfriend checklists include a Hit Man, P-Addict, Scientologist and a Robot. This book would make an excellent gift for a girlfriend who needs a laugh. Southern Publishers Group, RRP $29.99
Time For Tea: The Gentle Art of Reading Tea-Leaves, Lindel Barker-Revell There’s nothing quite like a decent cuppa. Time For Tea includes a brief history of reading tea-leaves, some tips on what types of tea to use and instructions on how to conduct a proper reading. I soon discovered that choosing the right teacup and teapot could make all the difference! If I’m ever brave enough to read my tealeaves, I’m keeping an eye out for a fish shape – apparently they are a positive omen suggesting financial and emotional wellbeing. Fingers crossed! Allen & Unwin, RRP $29.99
101 Quick Tips: Email and Google by Debbie Mayo-Smith This little book now lives beside my computer. I’m no computer geek, but I did get rather excited by some of the tips in this book. Computers are strange machines. Often you get so used to doing something a certain way that it never occurs to you there may be an easier alternative. Well, it occurred to Debbie Mayo-Smith – and I’m very happy she chose to share her tips in such an easy-to-read format. Her tips on creating email folders, shortcuts, and using Outlook features have made my workday immeasurably easier. Which leaves more time for coffee breaks, yippee! If you work in an office, by all means, buy this book. Penguin, RRP $20.00
