This month at nzgirl is all about obsessions. So of course this would have to include our TV obsessions!
We look at our current TV obsessions as well as our past, and often wish-to-be-forgotten ones.
The most obvious one at the moment is Grey’s Anatomy. And no doubt the main reason is because of McDreamy and McSteamy. Maybe the show should just be called Anatomy (although maybe a little suggestive there) because really, who is “Grey”? Oh yeah, her… Let’s face it. We watch it because of them. We’re allowed to be superficial.
One show that can make us feel obsessive when we’re not (because we just HAVE to watch it!) is America’s Next Top Model. It makes us feel glam even if we’re snuggled up on the couch in our pjs. And even though Tyra is getting more and more annoying each season, we’ll still watch it. After all, Nigel is on at the end.
Something we don’t really touch on in Couch Potato is kid’s shows. I guess mainly because kids aren’t likely to be reading this, but I’m sure there are a lot of mums out there with little ones that are just praying that shows like Dora the Explorer will a) go out of commission and never come back or b) never go away because it’s their savour. I’m for the former. There is only so many times you can hear the neighbour’s kids go “Oh maaaaaan…”
Recent obsessions that aren’t yet embarrassing include Buffy and Charmed. I liked Charmed a lot, but I loved Buffy. I’ve got the entire DVD collection. And yes, I’ve watch most of the first series.
Past obsessions of mine (this is going way back) were Magnum PI, A-Team, Knight Rider (oh shudder now!), Buck Rogers and Wonder Woman. I had my first major injury while at kindy pretending to be Wonder Woman. In A-Team, everyone who was anyone thought Mr T was cool. As for Magnum Pl…. Mmm. Even though he’s about 30 years my senior, and I was only 8, I was going to marry Tom Selleck. Maybe that’s why I like Boston Legal so much. Oh, and then there was Days of Our Lives through my teen years… I lived in rural Australia, give me a break!!
But back to normal TV now…
Did anyone see the season’s opener of Dancing with the Stars? Ok, to be honest, I watched something else but I did have a quick peek to perv on Frank Bunce and Brendan Pongia. Boy was Brendan hot! Even in that outfit. I hope Paul Holmes goes early, he just looks too creepy to be there.
And what would Couch Potato be without mention of Shortland Street? Here I was thinking we were in for a soapie trial (yawn) and before the week is out, Scarlett’s gone to Perth! Hooray! Baxter and Scarlett in the same month. Now, I don’t know how many are actually familiar with Days of Our Lives, but I fear this Keiran storyline may form into a ‘DOOL’-type plot. Anything that goes on over a week for me these days is too long.
