Make a Child Smile is a website is dedicated to Kiwi children who are either suffering from a life-threatening illness, or have been through some type of hardship that has really affected their everyday life.
Visitors to the site are asked to send a card or letter to a child, or their family, and make their day. Such a simple idea – but a great one. The website is colourful, uplifting and inspiring.
Each month there are new children featured on the site. Each child’s profile includes their interests, diagnosis and photos. Some of the profiles even include blogs by family members.
This month, there are children suffering from Neurofibromatosis, Cancer, Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma and one little boy who just lost his sister to cancer. My heart really went out to these guys after reading their profiles. The stories on Make A Child Smile will inspire you to make a difference.
How it works: Once you’ve decided on the child (or children) to contact, it’s time to get creative and write them a message that will brighten their day. Messages can then be posted to:
Child’s name and special code goes here (can be found on each profile) C/- Make a Child Smile PO Box 7195 Te Ngae, Rotorua
The people at Make A Child Smile will then pass on your kind words to the families.
By taking a few moments out of your life, (and getting creative with colourful pens) you can help a child in need of cheering up. It doesn't take long, plus you’re bound to get warm fuzzies.
