Kiwi TV has got a lot on offer with two hot new shows hitting our screens and and a new online serviceto make sure you don't miss your favourites...
Like your shows hot (and local)? TV One’s latest drama series The Hothouse goes to air on Thursday March 1 at 9.25pm. It comes from the production house that gave us the award-winning series The Insider's Guide to Happiness and The Insider's Guide to Love.
The Hothouse follows the complicated lives of a group of 20-somethings who share a run down, but very cool, inner city flat. Three are cops and one’s a lawyer, but this isn’t your average cop show. They struggle with being ‘upholders of the law’ but their personal dilemmas are far more intriguing than their day jobs.
Into the flat comes a rogue, a charmer, who’s on the wrong side of the law (but the others don’t know that yet). His arrival sparks a rapid chain of events that disrupt the already delicate balance of the house.
Another local show to hit our screens is Rude Awakenings which premiered last week and plays Fridays 8.30pm, again on TV One. Starring Danielle Cormack as Dimity Rush who is in a hurry to reconnect with an upbeat inner city vibe, after escaping the lifestyle block in Kumeu where she had been marooned with her family for seven years.
Ponsonby becomes the battleground as Dimity fixates on acquiring not only a done-up villa for her family, but also the neighbouring property on Ginger Street as an investment. Her neighbour (and nemesis), Arthur Short, has lived over the fence in his rundown rental for 20 years, bringing up his two teenage daughters with his ex-street kid wife Sharon, who has just left him for a woman.
Arthur knows that Dimity will be the ruin of everything he stands for, and he summons every weapon in his armoury to resist her advance.
Over the course of a heated summer, old Ponsonby fights new, as Dimity and Arthur battle for the soul of Ginger Street, and the futures of their families and livelihoods.
TVNZ OnDemand In March TVNZ ondemand will be launched, it's a new online service that will offer viewers a smorgasbord of visual content, from catch ups of Shortland Street to favourites from the archives, to sneak previews of new shows.
Chief Executive Rick Ellis says coming off the back of the TVNZ digital channels announcement the launch of TVNZ ondemand is a further demonstration of TVNZ's determination to provide all New Zealanders with the benefits of the digital age. TVNZ ondemand will go live with a combination of streamed and downloadable shows. Some will be free, others will be paid for using a purchasing system called Play Points. Registered users will have a Play Points balance, from which points will be deducted when a downloaded programme is played. The content available will also grow over time as there will be continuing negotiations around rights to programmes, and the unlocking of TVNZ's own archive.
