Movember was farewelled in style on Thursday night, with fans and foes of the mo’ united in their support of the cause...
The Auckland Movember VIP Gala took place at the Ellerslie Event Centre, and the retro theme was in full force. There was a lime green ‘red carpet’, Magnum PI playing on the TV screens and those crazy people from The Rock in full costume get-up.
I was bloody impressed by how many guys were in costume, and decent costumes, too. There was none of this “I’ll-just-wear-a-dorky-hat” business – no, the guys came out in force.
The idea was that you came in a costume best suited to your mo. We had cricket players, pirates, policemen, tennis players, 70s rock stars, Zorro (complete with mask), Three Muskateers, a team of guys resembling The Village People and one Evil Knievil look-alike with a disturbingly tight jumpsuit. As the MC put it, “if that guy stood up too quickly he’d give himself a vasectomy”. Nice.
To start off the “awards” part of the evening, the lovely Miss Movember strutted her stuff down the catwalk to a very enthusiastic crowd – good on her!
There were also prizes for categories like Best Porn Star Mo, 70s Mo, Sexiest Mo, Lamest Mo, and prizes for couples and teams. I especially liked the “Brokeback Mountain” inspired couples entry – those guys had some serious facial hair goin’ on. Most of you probably know that guys across New Zealand have been growing their facial hair to raise money for the Prostate Cancer Foundation Of New Zealand.
Well, according to the MC last night, we’ve raised a massive amount of money. So for all you poor girlies out there who put up with kissing a mo’ for the past month – your efforts were not in vain!!
