With our career focus this month it seemed only fitting to throw a few work related challenges in the mix. Read on for some simple changes you can make this October…

Update your CV. Make sure it has all the relevant info and double check for spelling and grammar mistakes. If it’s longer than two pages give it a ruthless cull… it’s unlikely prospective employers care about the public speaking prize you won at intermediate!
Enjoy daylight savings. Start making the most of your evenings. Meet a friend for a walk, take your dinner to a local park for an impromptu picnic or join a social sports team. When it gets darker later you can get heaps more out of the day.
INTERMEDIATE
Plan your work outfits for the next week (with a few spare options for unseasonable weather). If you’re anything like me you waste a lot of time in the morning figuring out what to wear and end up with half your wardrobe dumped on your bed so this should save you a fair bit of time.
Learn to cook a signature dish. Focus on your favourite food and then track down a recipe so you can recreate it yourself. Practice it a few times till you’ve perfected the recipe, then share it around… you want this to be the sort of dish people request you make cause it’s just so good!
CHALLENGING
Send a postcard to PostSecret. This site lets you unload your deepest, darkest secret into postcard format, where it’s then shared with the world via the internet (don’t worry, it’s anonymous). If that’s too confronting for you, take some time to read other people’s confessions.
Write a “Things to do before I die” list. It can be as simple or as complicated as you like, but really take the time to think about what you put on it, it’s a great way to assess what you really want out of your life. Head to www.2dobeforeidie.com for inspiration.
