Rock is dead, long live paper and scissors!
Calling all crafty nzgirls, if you’re in need of inspiration or advice for your next craft project, and the thought of daggy cross stitch patterns and crocheting doilies doesn’t tickle your fancy, then the forum at www.craftster.org may just be what you’re looking for.
The Appearance
The layout is fresh and organised, making it both easy on the eye and simple to navigate. The forum is split into many threads/sections depending on the type of project you want information on. They include the mandatory sections like clothing, jewellery, knitting etc. However, what makes the site special is that there are also sections for the more current and popular crafts like stencilling and reconstruction of clothing. Curvaceous Craftsters are also catered for in a thread of the same name, where you can share projects and tips for sewing clothing for curvaceous physiques. There is even a New Zealand thread, which is handy if you’re after craft advice from a local, and tips on where to get craft materials in your city.
The Content
The Craftster forum is user-driven, so the main focus is on member’s actual projects. This means plenty of projects are supplemented with pictures and step-by-step instructions for you to follow, and since it’s a forum you’re free to ask questions. Members are friendly knowledgeable and helpful, so don’t be shy to ask for advice or tips. The projects are so many and varied that you’re bound to find inspiration. So whether you want a to knit a Jack Sparrow doll or make a bowl from a vinyl record, or transform an old pair of jeans into a skirt, I can guarantee that there will be plenty of people to help you with advice for your project, or maybe someone will already have made a thread on it and included a step by step tutorial to help make your crafting dreams come true. There is a search function so it’s easy to find exactly what you want. But randomly browsing the forum is also great too as you’ll come across many random projects that’ll have you running to get your needles and thread.
