To tell you the truth I’m having a hard time dragging myself away from the internet to come and write this. I’ve developed an unfortunate addiction in the past week and I’m sweating just thinking about not being able to navigate it’s HTMLness.
No it’s not some dodgy porn site and no it’s not NZ Dating, it's... MySpace.
My Space, it seems, was developed as a way of making friends, scoring cheap sex, and trying to find a partner. It's not surprising then that it has taken over the world.
There are currently 85 million members of MySpace and you could meet them all if you had absolutely no life. Well actually as I have no life I have calculated that if you spent a minute trying to meet them all it would take you 161 years so that’s actually impossible, but you get the idea.
What you do is sign-up then invite people to be your friends, a bit like the first day at primary school. You then wait with baited breath to see if they’ll take you up on that offer or whether they’ll call you pissy pants and steal your lunch money (or was that primary school again?).
You then exchange witty repartee, blogs and other inane time wasting exercises as you chuckle and pat each other on the back about how clever you all are.
Sounds fun, huh!
I have resisted MySpace for quite some time convinced that as I had my own website already I had no need for its cyber silliness. However, what it has morphed into is a massive launch pad for comedians, musicians and so forth. People are networking their asses off around the world and some have even been discovered through playing concerts only on the 'space.
So OK I thought, time to bite the bullet and upload some stuff, which I did.
BUT that’s just the beginning.
Then you can format it all with HTML codes they provide you with, you can upload songs, videos and make pretty slide shows. You make it all ridiculously pink and feel very clever coz you did it all yourself, which made you realise HTML ain’t so hard after all.
See how clever we all are.
So yes, this foray into cyber friends is much better than the one I indulged in in the year 2000. That was a trivial pursuit chat room (see aforementioned lack of life comment) where we all gathered, chatted and competed to answer trivia questions (as I type this now it seems way less cool than it did at the time).
It all ended in tears though, when a married couple split up because the woman thought the man was having an affair with another chatter who happened to live……. 12,000 miles away. Suffice to say I realised I was way too sane for these crazy people and went off to macramé some sausages.
So where was I? Oh yes MySpace, head on down and if you want to be my friend check out www.myspace.com/hotpinkpennyashton... man we’re cool.
(And what you don’t know is I emailed the correct HTML code to the lovely nzgirls so they could put it up online without having to edit it themselves….see how clever I am.)
