Challenges For April

There’s been so much in the media recently about bullying and the terrible effects it can have on a person’s spirit. While you can’t make big changes overnight, it’s easy to do little things that make you and those around you feel good about themselves.

We’ve put together some suggestions to help you get started. www.extremekindness.com has heaps more ideas of ways you can make the world a better place...

TAME
  • Halt a bitching session. Back stabbing sucks, but we know it’s easy to get caught up in talking about other people. Be the better person, next time friends, colleagues or flatmates start bitching about someone don’t join in... In fact go one better and make a nice comment about that person. That’ll shut the others down presto!

  • Throw around some “I love yous”. Not in the romantic sense, you want to save those for people who truly deserve them! But don’t forget to let those closest to you know just how much you care about and appreciate them.

    INTERMEDIATE
  • Look out for someone younger than you. It may be a sister, cousin, niece or neighbour. Having an older friend they look up to can be a powerful thing for a child/ young teenager. Take the time to do fun things, talk about stuff and let them know they can always turn to you if they have a problem.

  • Help out others in your community. It may be hard to find time to volunteer, but that doesn’t mean you can’t do something. Gather up non-perishable food and donate it to your local food bank. It’s as easy as adding a few extras cans/ packets of noodles/ boxes of cereal to your weekly grocery shop, you probably won’t even notice the few extra dollars on your bill.

    CHALLENGING
  • Shake things up a bit. If you always have lunch with the same colleague or group of colleagues then consider eating with someone different. It’s a great way to get to know someone new, especially if your work is quite cliquey and you tend to stick to departmental groups.

  • Do you know your neighbours? Next time you’re throwing a party why not invite some of those people who live around you over? It’s always good to have your neighbours onside, so getting to know them seems a wise move!

Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless
