Well a momentous occasion has passed since you last read about me. I turned the ripe old age of 32.
I say ripe as like a nectarine I believe I am entering the fullest fruitiest part of my life where I am very sweet and quite juicy. Well maybe not that but a friend told me the best is yet to come and I’m choosing to believe her.
Some people fear birthdays but I love them. It’s a whole day where it’s all about me and people give you stuff just because your parents decided to have sex one drunken night. How cool is that?
It’s the reward you get for doing nothing other than existing, though in these troubled times that’s pretty impressive I guess. Still all I have to do is eat enough food and drink enough water to get me through 12 months and at the end of it people congratulate my efforts. I love it.
This birthday was a little different as it is also my ex’s birthday so for the first time in my life it wasn’t theoretically all about me. Still it was nearly all about me and that’s cool enough.
(I just realised I’m beginning to sound megalomaniacal and self-obsessed (fancy that) and so will stop on the “all about me” thing.)
SO what did I do on my birthday?
Well I woke up and felt pretty sad about the whole “sharing a birthday with a man who no longer shares my life” thing and so decided to drown my sorrows in hollandaise sauce at brunch with a fabulous friend.
I then spent the afternoon walking through Mission Bay and going to see Da Vinci’s Machines at the Museum with my fabulous flatmate. This was cool as I got to turn handles and wind things up and down. Very mature stuff.
Then for the evening I got completely sozzled on Savvy blancs and black out from about 12am onwards. Who knows what I did but I’m sure it was fun. I just hope it didn’t involve any homeless men, lap dancing or absinthe but who really knows? Very mature stuff.
To kick off my 33rd year I have flown to Melbourne. I’m chilling at the moment about to head to the Adelaide Fringe Festival tomorrow. I’ve already pre-sold more tickets than I ever have in my life so am feeling wildly optimistic. This will probably bite me in the ass but I choose to believe that my glass of savvy is half-full.
Well until later on tonight that is when it will be very very empty and I won’t remember what my name is.
Very mature stuff.
Penny
