Throw a Naked Lady Party

While the title is sure to titillate your boy, a Naked Lady Party is a strictly male-free zone.

It’s also the best way to spring clean your wardrobe and have a whole lot of fun swapping your unwanted clothes with your friends. We threw one to test the concept out so that you could see how easy it is to pull off!

Here are the essential ingredients:

  • Friends (obviously!): It’s best to keep it intimate, but you also want to have a few people come along whose wardrobes you’re not familiar with to keep it interesting. Between 10-15 people works best. Also, make sure you invite people who are a range of sizes, you don’t want anyone feeling left out ‘cause they don’t fit anything.

  • A venue: By the time all your girlfriends bring their bags of clothes over, you’re going to find yourself with more garments than an op shop. The best plan is to figure out a system for hanging items (so make sure you’ve got plenty of coat hangers) and have a table where t-shirts and the like can be stacked. Allocate each person a space for their bits and pieces.
  • A fair system: Originally we’d planned to do straight swaps, but the problem is you may want something from a friend, but they don’t want/don’t fit anything of yours. We ended up having a combination of direct swaps and, “Yeah, sure you can have that”. It all worked out!

  • Food: An essential for any girly get together, but more so for a Naked Lady Party. After all, we all know how tiring shopping is and this is made to be much more enjoyable – no snotty shop assistants and no way to max out the credit card (aaah heaven!).

  • A supportive trying on environment: It pays to try things on, you don’t want to trade your unworn items for more items you’re not going to wear! Have a private room set aside so nobody risks flashing the neighbours. Give each other honest, but sensitive feedback, you know the drill!

It was very cool seeing clothes that I just know I’m unlikely to squeeze into again, (no matter how much I want to admit it) look great on other people. Yes, it was hard letting go of that size 8 skirt – but let’s be realistic! On the plus side it’s always fun injecting something new into your wardrobe, even if it’s not brand new!

It was also interesting seeing what other girls had lurking inside their wardrobes. While everyone was a tad embarrassed about the stuff they didn’t want anymore, that quickly died when they saw how others reacted to it.

It really is true that one woman’s too small Ruby hoodie is another woman’s treasure!
