When it comes to the question “have you ever pulled a sickie because of a bad hair day” in the SunSilk National Hair Survey it’s unlikely Kelly Swanson Rowe would have ticked yes... because her hair always looks so damn fantastic!
This can probably be attributed to the fact that she’s got an amazing “zest for life” which gets her out of bed in the morning.
“I’m always looking forward to the day ahead…I’ve always been really optimistic and positive, aren’t you?”
It’s hard not to get drawn into the positive energy that she exudes and impossible not to smile or giggle along with her.
What makes all of this even more amazing are the pitfalls that Kelly’s had to overcome on the road to where she is now. Kelly lost her husband weeks into their intended two year OE in a tragic canyoning tragedy in the Swiss Alps. She returned home to New Zealand and left her career in sales and marketing and began her foray into film and television.
Currently fronting the SunSilk National Hair Survey and full of plans for the future, Kelly is one busy lady. The question definitely begs… how does she avoid unnecessary sickies and keep her hair looking so good? Turns out a bit of insider knowledge is necessary.
First, start with a great cut. Francine from Boo Hair Design in Grey Lynn, Auckland came with high recommendations from Kelly;
“She’s absolutely fabulous! She’s more of a hair technician, she knows exactly how to cut, colour and style your hair as soon as you walk through the door. If anyone’s having any hair-mares definitely go and see her!”
Then maintain a great cut with great product. Kelly says using a shampoo and conditioner, designed for your specific hair type is the basis of fantastic looking hair.
For her hair type Kelly uses SunSilk Silky Straight shampoo and conditioner and then applies Silky Straight Leave In Straightening Treatment, which leaves her hair smooth and glossy.
But, if it all turns to irredeemable custard, then “a pony tail…or the old Nike cap comes out occasionally when I’m at the gym.”
Even her hair disaster story is pretty tame! Where I was expecting a confession involving some heavy peroxide, a spiral perm or wonky fringe, it seems that the deepest Kelly’s hair shame extends to is a brief bout with some Henna that turned her hair orange.
The gorgeous Halle Berry is cited as her celebrity hair icon, “because she can wear her hair anyway she likes and looks sublime and completely amazing”. Kelly’s not ruling out the possibility of a “short and spiky” Halle style, “why not?”
“Short and spiky” is what she’s after with regards to guys’ hair as well, but a bit of messy or windswept action isn’t ruled out either. Two styles that definitely don’t float her boat, “the mullet’s out and long hair is incredibly bad”!
Given that Kelly’s shared her secrets, it seems only fair to show her the same courtesy and share yours. Make sure you head along to www.sunsilk.co.nz, complete the survey and help “put some hair stereotypes to bed”.
“It’s quite exciting; I’m really looking forward to it… I think that we probably think about our hair more than we reveal!”
